The new contracts, won in India as well as in the Middle East, underline the company’s continued strength in executing complex grid infrastructure projects across geographies.

The announcement was made through a formal communication to the stock exchanges on February 25, 2026. The company stated that its Power Transmission and Distribution (PTD) vertical has received a batch of Engineering, Procurement and Construction or EPC orders that fall under the company’s internal classification of Major projects. In L and T’s terminology, a Major order typically ranges between ₹5,000 crore and ₹10,000 crore in value.

These fresh wins come at a time when countries across the world are accelerating investments in electricity grid systems. The rapid growth in renewable energy, urbanisation, industrial expansion and rising power demand has made modern and reliable transmission networks a critical priority. India projects focus on grid modernisation in West Bengal

In India, L and T’s PTD vertical has received an order for the design, supply and construction of two 220 kV Gas Insulated Substations in the Durgapur–Raniganj–Asansol industrial belt of West Bengal. This region is one of the key industrial clusters in eastern India, housing steel plants, power plants, mining operations and manufacturing facilities.

A Gas Insulated Substation or GIS is a compact and advanced type of substation where major electrical equipment such as circuit breakers and disconnectors are enclosed in a gas-insulated chamber. GIS technology is particularly useful in areas where land is limited or environmental conditions require higher safety and reliability standards. Compared to conventional air-insulated substations, GIS installations require less space and offer improved operational safety.

The scope of the project goes beyond just building substations. It also includes associated transmission line segments, the use of advanced conductors, and the construction of multi-circuit towers. Advanced conductors help carry higher current loads with lower transmission losses, while multi-circuit towers enable multiple transmission lines to run on a single structure. High voltage transmission systems such as 400 kV and 500 kV lines are essential for transporting large quantities of electricity over long distances with minimal losses. One of the projects in the Middle East also includes the supply and installation of a 400 kV underground cable system.
