During the Monsoon Session 2024, Trinamool Congress (TMC) member Kalyan Banerjee attempted to raise the issue of West Bengal’s possible bifurcation. This controversy arose from remarks allegedly made by Union Minister Sukanata Majumdar and BJP leader Nishikant Dubey. Speaker Om Birla ruled that Majumdar’s comments were not made within the House, and Dubey’s remarks were part of the Zero Hour, which limited their scope for discussion.

In response, TMC members gathered in the Well of the House, vocally protesting against what they view as a conspiracy to divide West Bengal.
