Key Points:

  1. L&T's power transmission and distribution business wins significant orders in India and abroad, including floating solar projects.
  2. Projects include establishment of floating solar plants, transmission lines, and substations to integrate renewable energy.
  3. L&T's commitment to innovative renewable energy solutions reflects in its recent project acquisitions.

Larsen and Toubro (L&T) Power Transmission and Distribution Business is making waves in the energy sector with its recent acquisition of major orders, both domestically and internationally. These orders signify a significant stride towards sustainable energy solutions, particularly in the realm of renewable energy.

Among the notable projects secured by L&T is the establishment of two floating solar plants in India, with a combined capacity exceeding 150 MWac. This innovative approach involves mounting solar modules on floating structures in water bodies like reservoirs or lakes, offering advantages over traditional ground-mounted solar plants. Not only do floating solar projects eliminate the need for land acquisition, but they also entail less civil work and offer site-specific benefits, such as reducing water evaporation.

In addition to floating solar projects, L&T's portfolio includes orders for the establishment of 765 kV transmission lines and a gas-insulated substation in Rajasthan and Karnataka. These infrastructure developments are crucial for integrating solar energy zones and facilitating the efficient evacuation of renewable energy to various load centers across the country.

Internationally, L&T's power transmission and distribution business secured significant contracts, including a project in Kuwait to build a 400 kV gas-insulated substation. This substation will play a pivotal role in powering residential clusters as part of the South Sabah Al-Ahmad City project. Similarly, in Oman, L&T is involved in the construction of a 400 kV overhead transmission line and two grid stations, contributing to the country's efforts to integrate standalone electricity networks into a national grid system.

Furthermore, L&T's endeavors extend to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where it has secured orders for the construction of two 132 kV substations. These substations, along with associated works, underscore L&T's commitment to providing comprehensive power transmission solutions across borders.

T Madhava Das, L&T's whole-time director and senior executive vice-president (utilities), highlighted the rapid advancements in solar power and hybrid technologies, emphasizing L&T's role in implementing technologically advanced projects of critical importance. This commitment to innovation and excellence is evident in L&T's proactive approach towards addressing the evolving energy landscape.

Prior to these recent developments, L&T's subsidiary, L&T GeoStructure, had secured multiple orders across the country, further consolidating L&T's position as a leader in infrastructure development.

Despite recent market fluctuations, with L&T shares experiencing losses over consecutive days, the company's steadfast focus on sustainable energy solutions and innovative projects positions it for long-term success in the evolving energy sector.
