L&T secures mega orders to develop HVDC transmission lines and GIS packages, further enhancing power grids in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

The projects involve key infrastructure developments, including substations, auto transformers, and telecommunications systems for grid modernization.

L&T continues to strengthen its presence in the Middle East with advanced power solutions and critical energy infrastructure projects.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced the winning of Mega Orders in the Middle East for the construction of advanced grid systems, including High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) Transmission Lines and Gas Insulated Substations (GIS). These orders, secured through the company’s Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) vertical, highlight L&T’s pivotal role in developing and modernizing electricity grids across the region.

In Saudi Arabia, the company has been awarded multiple packages for the installation of ±500kV HVDC Transmission Links. These systems will interconnect different regions of the Saudi national electricity grid, enhancing the country’s ability to exchange power between regions and significantly improving system resilience. Additionally, L&T has secured contracts to establish 380kV overhead transmission lines and construct a 380kV Gas Insulated Substation. These infrastructure upgrades are critical for facilitating renewable energy integration and boosting the reliability of the Saudi grid.

In the United Arab Emirates (UAE), L&T has been entrusted with the task of building two major 400kV Gas Insulated Substations in Abu Dhabi. Along with civil works, the project includes Series Current Limiting Reactors, Auto Transformers, and integrated control, protection, and substation monitoring systems. The substations will significantly increase the power transfer capacity of the UAE electricity grid and ensure efficient distribution to meet the growing energy demands of the region.

These advanced transmission systems are vital in ensuring that the electricity grid can handle the variable generation from renewable energy sources in both Saudi Arabia and the UAE. With L&T’s expertise, these new grids will be built to support the future of sustainable energy and the seamless transfer of power across large distances, strengthening energy security for both countries.

Commenting on the significance of these projects, Mr. T. Madhava Das, Whole-Time Director & Senior Executive Vice President (Utilities) at Larsen & Toubro, stated, "The modernization and fortification of transmission systems is the first step toward building a secure and resilient grid capable of handling variable renewable generation in today’s evolving energy market. We are grateful to our customers for trusting us with these monumental projects.”

The new transmission systems being established by L&T form part of Saudi Arabia’s national strategy to enhance its power infrastructure and improve energy exchange between regions. These projects are a crucial component in supporting the country’s transition to renewable energy by integrating clean power into the national grid. Similarly, in the UAE, L&T's advanced GIS substations will enable greater power flow to support the nation’s ambitious energy goals and growing industrial requirements.

L&T’s continued success in winning major infrastructure projects in the Middle East reaffirms its leadership in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) services and its commitment to delivering top-class quality across the globe. With over eight decades of excellence, the company has established itself as a trusted partner for developing large-scale, high-tech infrastructure solutions, providing comprehensive services across various sectors.

Larsen & Toubro’s recent achievements in the Middle East, including the mega orders for the development of HVDC Transmission Lines and GIS substations, underscore its commitment to strengthening global energy infrastructures. These projects are expected to play a crucial role in enhancing the efficiency and security of the electricity grids in Saudi Arabia and the UAE, both of which are positioning themselves as leaders in the adoption of renewable energy.

L&T’s long-standing reputation as a premier EPC contractor continues to propel its growth on the global stage. These mega projects further reinforce the company’s ability to execute highly complex and critical infrastructure projects across multiple geographies, supporting the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions in today’s world.

With its deep expertise in power transmission and distribution, L&T remains at the forefront of the industry's evolution, contributing significantly to energy security and sustainability on a global scale. Keep an eye on more exciting developments from L&T as it continues to drive innovation in the world of infrastructure and power.
