Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), India’s renowned engineering and infrastructure giant, has announced the receipt of significant orders for its Water & Effluent Treatment (WET) business vertical. The latest projects, secured from the Public Health Engineering Department of Rajasthan, will further strengthen L&T’s robust portfolio of water infrastructure works across the country.

Orders for Rajasthan Water Supply Projects

On 3rd June 2025, L&T disclosed via stock exchanges and a press release that it has bagged engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) orders related to the Rajasthan Rural Water Supply and Fluorosis Mitigation Project – Phase II, Package-1.

This project aims to alleviate the chronic issue of fluorosis and drinking water scarcity in parts of Rajasthan, benefitting 285 villages and the towns of Surajgarh and Udaipurwati in the Jhunjhunu district.

Key Scope of the First Project

The contract includes:

• 5,251 km of transmission and distribution pipelines

• 38 ground-level reservoirs (GLRs) with a total capacity of 40 million litres (ML)

• 20 pump houses

• 132 overhead service reservoirs (OHSRs) with a total capacity of 25 million litres

In addition to these civil works, the scope includes electromechanical installations, instrumentation, automation, and integration of SCADA systems, which ensure smart monitoring and control of water supply operations.

Second Project in Ajmer District

The WET vertical has also secured a separate contract for strengthening and rehabilitation of the water supply system in the Kekri-Sarwar sector in Ajmer district. This project involves:

• 43 km of new transmission pipelines

• Electromechanical works, SCADA implementation, and instrumentation

• A 1-year defect liability period

• 10 years of operations and maintenance (O&M) responsibility

Project Classification and Financial Implication

As per L&T’s internal classification, the current set of orders fall under the ‘Significant’ category, which refers to projects valued between ₹1,000 crore and ₹2,500 crore. Though the exact value was not disclosed, the classification provides an indicative range of the contract size.

Proven Track Record in Rajasthan

L&T has a deep-rooted presence in Rajasthan, having executed 24 water infrastructure projects in the state already. These repeat orders are seen as a strong endorsement of L&T’s capability, credibility, and engineering excellence in delivering large-scale, critical infrastructure projects on time and to the highest standards.

Strategic Importance

The projects are aligned with the broader goals of the Government of Rajasthan and the Central Government’s Jal Jeevan Mission, which aims to provide functional household tap connections (FHTC) to every rural home in India.

By undertaking these projects, L&T not only contributes to improved water accessibility in drought-prone and fluoride-affected regions but also plays a key role in improving public health and sanitation outcomes.

In both projects, the following services are integrated:

• High-density pipeline installations across rural and semi-urban landscapes

• Deployment of SCADA systems for intelligent infrastructure management

Such comprehensive involvement, from design to maintenance, ensures that the projects deliver long-term benefits to communities while maintaining operational efficiency.
