Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has announced a significant increase in the financial assistance provided under the Ladli Behna Yojana, raising the amount from Rs 1,250 to Rs 3,000 per beneficiary. The announcement was made on Monday during an event held in Pipalrawa village, Dewas district, where Rs 1,553 crore was transferred to the accounts of 1.27 crore women beneficiaries. This increase marks a key shift in the state’s welfare programs, aimed at providing women with more financial support in the state.
Continued Support for Women: CM Yadav's Reassurance
In his address to the gathering, CM Yadav reassured women that the Ladli Behna Yojana would continue without disruption. He criticized opposition claims, particularly from the Congress, accusing them of spreading misinformation about the scheme. “The Congress has been spreading lies across the country, claiming that our government would stop these payments after one or two months. But we will leave no stone unturned in fulfilling our promises,” he stated.
In addition to the enhanced financial assistance, the government is also providing gas cylinders at Rs 450 to 74 lakh women, further supporting the welfare of women in the state. CM Yadav also promised that the monetary benefits would continue to grow until they reach Rs 3,000.
Benefits to Pensioners and Farmers
At the same event, CM Yadav announced further financial support for other sections of society, including social security pension beneficiaries and farmers:
- Rs 337 crore was transferred to 56 lakh social security pension beneficiaries.
- Rs 1,624 crore was allocated to 81 lakh farmers as part of the ongoing efforts to strengthen the state’s agricultural sector.
Additionally, CM Yadav inaugurated and laid the foundation for 53 development projects, valued at Rs 144.84 crore, aiming to improve infrastructure and welfare in the state.
Political Backlash: Congress Criticizes the Announcement
The announcement has sparked political debates, with Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitu Patwari accusing the BJP government of making unfulfilled promises. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he criticized CM Yadav’s announcement, calling it a “false promise”.
Patwari raised concerns about the declining number of Ladli Behna Yojana beneficiaries, alleging that it has dropped from 1.31 crore in October 2023 to 1.27 crore in February 2025. He claimed that new beneficiaries are not being added, and some existing names are being removed from the list. Patwari further compared CM Yadav’s approach to that of former CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, accusing the current leadership of misleading women with false promises.
Conclusion
The announcement by CM Mohan Yadav has raised the stakes in Madhya Pradesh’s political landscape, particularly ahead of the upcoming elections. While the increased financial assistance under the Ladli Behna Yojana aims to uplift women in the state, the political debates around its implementation and opposition criticism are likely to shape the discourse as the election season draws closer.
