In a strong statement on Wednesday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav condemned the cowardly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists, mostly non-locals, and left seven others injured. The attack took place in the popular Baisarsan Valley, a tourist destination in Pahalgam, where terrorists ambushed a group of visitors, opening fire from the nearby forest on Tuesday.

The Chief Minister expressed his deep sorrow and condolences for the victims of this brutal and inhuman attack. In a post on X, he wrote, “The cowardly terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, is highly condemnable. Many innocent people have lost their lives in this cowardly and inhuman act. I pay tribute to the noble souls of all the deceased. My deepest condolences to all the bereaved families who lost their loved ones in this heinous act. I pray to Baba Mahakal to grant speedy recovery to all those injured in the attack.”

Mohan Yadav also reaffirmed that the entire nation stands united against terrorism. He added, “Our country is united against terrorism. Any conspiracy by terrorists to disturb Jammu and Kashmir will never succeed, and terrorists will definitely get a befitting reply for this misdeed.” His statement highlights India’s determination to eradicate terrorism and ensure security for its citizens and visitors.

The attack occurred in the Baisarsan Valley, an area in the Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, which has historically been a tourist hotspot. The terrorists, hiding in the forest, unleashed their attack on a group of tourists, resulting in a devastating loss of life. This is the latest in a series of terrorist activities aimed at creating fear and instability in the region.

In response to this tragic attack, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has been closely monitoring the situation, with authorities in Jammu and Kashmir ramping up their efforts to apprehend the attackers.

Outrage against the attack has been widespread, with political leaders, residents, and civil society groups expressing their shock and anger. Several political parties in Jammu and Kashmir have supported the Kashmir Bandh (shutdown), which was called for Wednesday to protest the killings and show solidarity with the victims' families. The Bandh has been supported by local organizations and communities.

In Pahalgam, taxi drivers led a candlelight protest march, and similar candlelight vigils were held across Jammu and Kashmir, including in Baramulla, Srinagar, Poonch, Akhnoor, and Kupwara. These vigils were held in memory of the victims and to express the region’s resolute opposition to terrorism.

Bajrang Dal workers in Jammu staged their own protests in response to the attack, showing community resistance against terror acts aimed at innocent civilians. The ongoing protests reflect the collective anger and grief felt by the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who are united in their call for justice.

The attack on tourists in Pahalgam has shocked the nation, highlighting the vulnerabilities faced by the tourism industry in Kashmir, which has been a target of violence in the past. The incident has intensified calls for greater security measures and counter-terrorism efforts in the region to ensure the safety of both locals and visitors.

In the wake of the incident, officials in Jammu and Kashmir have promised to leave no stone unturned in the investigation and security enhancement to prevent such attacks in the future. As of now, authorities are actively working to bring those responsible to justice and ensure lasting peace in the region.

This act of terrorism is a stark reminder of the continued threat of violence in Jammu and Kashmir. However, the resilience of its people and the country’s unwavering stance against terrorism provide hope for a future free of terror and for the rebuilding of the region to its former peaceful and prosperous state.
