The Maharashtra government has made a significant announcement regarding the waiver of tolls for light motor vehicles entering Mumbai through its five toll booths. Before the waiver, these tolls were set to remain in effect until 2026. With an estimated 3.5 lakh vehicles entering and exiting Mumbai daily, this decision aims to alleviate the traffic congestion often experienced at these toll plazas, especially for the 2.80 lakh light vehicles that travel through them.

The ruling government claims that this toll exemption will save time for commuters who would otherwise spend long hours waiting in queues. The Shinde administration had reportedly been deliberating this decision for several months, which they now refer to as a “revolutionary decision.”
