Avaada Electro to invest US$ 1.67 billion in a new solar manufacturing facility.

Maharashtra is setting an ambitious target to become the first state in India to meet 50% of its energy needs from non-traditional power sources by 2030. This announcement was made by Mr. Devendra Fadnavis, the Deputy Chief Minister, during the foundation stone-laying ceremony for Avaada Electro Pvt Ltd's integrated solar ingot, wafer, cell, module, and electrolyzer manufacturing facility located in Nagpur MIDC (Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation).

Mr. Fadnavis emphasized the remarkable advancements Maharashtra has made in its solar energy sector over the past two and a half years. The state government has approved solar projects with a total capacity of 20,000 megawatts (MW) during this period. Historically, since India gained independence, Maharashtra has achieved a total solar energy capacity of 40,000 MW. Notably, in just one year, the capacity of solar pump storage projects has skyrocketed to 55,000 MW, illustrating the rapid growth and investment in renewable energy.

In addition to solar, the combined capacity of wind and solar projects in Maharashtra now stands at approximately 20,000 MW. This substantial growth reflects the state's commitment to enhancing its renewable energy infrastructure and reducing reliance on traditional energy sources.

During the event, Mr. Fadnavis highlighted that, given the government's unwavering commitment to developing solar and non-traditional energy initiatives, Maharashtra is well on track to achieve its ambitious goal by 2030.

Regarding the Avaada project, he noted that the company is set to invest nearly US$ 1.67 billion (approximately Rs. 14,000 crore) into the new facility, with production expected to commence by April 2025. This significant investment is projected to create around 5,000 direct jobs, reflecting the government's commitment to boosting employment through sustainable energy projects. Moreover, the project aims for 51% participation from the women workforce, underscoring the state’s focus on gender inclusion in its energy initiatives.

With these initiatives, Maharashtra is positioning itself as a leader in the renewable energy sector, setting a precedent for other states to follow as India strives to meet its broader sustainability goals.
