In a significant political development, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde held an important meeting on Thursday night with Union Home Minister Amit Shah ahead of a Mahayuti coalition meeting. The discussions centered on the power-sharing arrangement in Maharashtra after the BJP-led alliance emerged victorious in the recent state assembly elections. Shinde arrived directly from Mumbai and drove to Shah's residence on Krishna Menon Marg, where BJP president J P Nadda, Devendra Fadnavis, and Ajit Pawar were also present. The high-stakes meeting lasted two hours and sparked intense speculation over who will be the next Chief Minister of Maharashtra, with Fadnavis being strongly considered as the front-runner for the role.

Eknath Shinde addressed the ongoing speculation by stating that he would abide by the decision made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah regarding the formation of the new government. He emphasized that there were no obstacles to government formation and referred to his role as a part of the broader coalition effort. Shinde also mentioned that his personal ambitions would not stand in the way of the alliance’s collective goal of governance, symbolizing his commitment to alliance dharma.

This is in line with the earlier statements made by Sanjay Shirsat, a spokesperson for the Shiv Sena, who clarified that Shinde would be part of the cabinet but would not accept a secondary role such as the deputy CM position. The Shiv Sena, led by Shinde, will nominate a different leader for the deputy CM post.

The Maharashtra elections saw the BJP-led Mahayuti coalition securing a stunning victory with 230 seats out of the 288-member House. Given the large number of Maratha community MLAs in the assembly, the caste dynamics are playing a crucial role in determining the CM candidate. As a Brahmin, Devendra Fadnavis has a strong political base, having served as CM in the past. According to sources, if the RSS influence prevails, Fadnavis is likely to be chosen as the CM.

Shinde’s son, Shrikant Shinde, also expressed pride in his father’s selfless leadership, highlighting how his father prioritized the collective governance over personal ambition. In a social media post, he lauded Shinde’s deep connection with the people of Maharashtra, emphasizing his commitment to serve all sections of society and his trust in Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to guide the state forward.

The official CM announcement is still awaited, but the outcome of this meeting will set the tone for Maharashtra's future governance. The state's political landscape remains dynamic, with all eyes on the alliance's next move as they prepare to form the next Maharashtra government.
