The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has submitted a formal complaint to the Election Commission of India, seeking action against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The delegation that approached the poll body included senior Union Ministers such as Piyush Goyal, Kiren Rijiju, and Sukanta Majumdar, among others.

According to the complaint, the BJP has accused Mamata Banerjee of making what it described as “grave and disturbing public statements” during multiple rallies held in West Bengal. The party claims that these remarks may have implications for the conduct of elections, arguing that they could influence voters and affect the fairness of the electoral process.

The Model Code of Conduct is a set of guidelines issued by the Election Commission to regulate the behavior of political parties and candidates during elections. It is intended to ensure that elections are conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner, without the use of inflammatory language, undue influence, or actions that could disrupt public order or electoral integrity.

The BJP’s complaint asserts that the statements made by Mamata Banerjee could potentially pose a threat to the neutrality and fairness of the election environment. The party has urged the Election Commission to examine the matter and take appropriate action if any violations are found.
