West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee launched a strong attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his recent Operation Sindoor campaign and comments related to the Murshidabad violence. She accused Modi of using falsehoods and politicising cultural campaigns to divide the country for electoral gains.

Speaking at a public event, Banerjee expressed shock and sadness over Modi’s remarks and condemned the BJP minister’s promise of launching Operation Bengal similar to Operation Sindoor. She issued a direct challenge to the BJP to face elections immediately, stating that the Trinamool Congress and Bengal are fully prepared for the contest.

Banerjee ridiculed the BJP by calling it the jumla party and accused the Prime Minister of spreading lies to polarise voters. Addressing the controversy around Operation Sindoor, she emphasised that women accept sindoor only from their husbands, questioning why Modi has not given sindoor to his own wife first. She described Modi’s campaign as foul and hollow gimmicks designed to manipulate public opinion.

Her remarks reflect the intense political battle ahead of the 2026 West Bengal assembly polls where both parties are gearing up for a fierce electoral fight. Banerjee’s challenge to the BJP underscores the Trinamool Congress’s confidence in retaining power and countering what she calls divisive politics.
