In a devastating incident in Mandsaur district of Madhya Pradesh, 12 lives were tragically lost when a speeding van plunged into a well after colliding with a bike on April 27, 2025. The van, traveling at high speed, first struck the motorcycle, injuring the rider. After the collision, the van lost control and fell into a nearby well in Chakariya village, under the jurisdiction of the Narayangarh police station.

As the van crashed into the well, it caused a life-threatening situation due to a subsequent LPG gas leak from the vehicle. The gas leak led to suffocation for the passengers trapped inside, making the rescue operation even more difficult. Amidst the chaos, a local man rushed to help the victims, jumping into the well to save them. Sadly, he also succumbed to the effects of the gas leak, making the tragedy even more heartbreaking.

Out of the 14 passengers in the van, 12 lost their lives11 drowned in the well, and one died on the road due to injuries sustained during the crash. Four individuals were successfully rescued from the well, and the injured were rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment.

In the wake of this horrific accident, both the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, and the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) announced financial aid for the families of the deceased and the injured victims.

Chief Minister Yadav expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, offering his condolences to the affected families. On social media, he announced that Rs 2 lakh would be provided to the families of the 12 deceased, alongside financial aid of Rs 1 lakh for those who were seriously injured and Rs 50,000 for those who suffered minor injuries. CM Yadav prayed for the peace of the deceased souls and the speedy recovery of the injured, ensuring that the families would have the support needed to cope with the loss.

The PMO, in a similar gesture, announced that the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would extend an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the next of kin of each of the deceased. Additionally, Rs 50,000 would be given to each of the injured victims. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences on X (formerly Twitter), wishing for the recovery of the injured and sending heartfelt support to the grieving families.

The rescue operation, which was carried out by local authorities, was a race against time. The Narayangarh police and other rescue teams acted quickly to save those trapped in the well. However, the presence of the LPG gas leak made the operation particularly hazardous, highlighting the dangerous nature of the accident.

This tragic event has left the community in shock, with the entire nation expressing grief over the untimely loss of lives. The support from the state and central governments, through financial assistance, is aimed at providing some relief to the families during this incredibly difficult time.

The accident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and proper infrastructure, especially in rural areas. The well, which was not equipped with a boundary wall, became a deadly trap for the victims. Authorities are likely to review safety measures in the region to prevent such accidents in the future.

In conclusion, this devastating accident in Mandsaur has claimed the lives of innocent individuals, including a brave local man who tried to help during the crisis. The government’s financial support will offer some solace to the grieving families, but the emotional and psychological scars of this tragedy will likely last long after the immediate relief. The community and the nation stand united in mourning for the victims of this horrific accident.
