Manish Sisodia, former Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, made a powerful return to public life as he addressed a gathering of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers on Saturday, a day after his release from Tihar jail. In an emotionally charged speech, Sisodia expressed deep gratitude to the party members, stating that their tears and unwavering support had given him the strength to endure his time in custody.
He did not hold back in his criticism of the Central government, accusing it of fabricating false cases against AAP leaders to weaken the party. Sisodia made it clear that despite the government's efforts, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal would soon be released from jail, emphasizing that Kejriwal stands as a symbol of honesty. He accused the Central government of using agencies like the CBI and ED as tools to break the spirit of the AAP leadership but asserted that their attempts would fail.
In his address, Sisodia also touched upon the Supreme Court's ruling that granted him bail, expressing his belief that justice had finally been served after a prolonged battle. "These tears have given me strength...I was hoping that justice would be delivered in 7-8 months. It took 17 months but honesty and truth have won," he stated, underscoring his belief in the judiciary's ability to stand up against what he termed as a dictatorship.
Sisodia expressed deep respect and gratitude for his legal team, particularly his advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, whom he referred to as a God for securing his release. The Supreme Court's decision, as Sisodia described, was not just a personal victory but a triumph for the principles of justice and fairness in the face of political vendetta.
Earlier in the day, Sisodia paid a visit to the Hanuman Temple at Connaught Place to offer his prayers, a move reflecting his deep faith and gratitude for the support he received during his ordeal. Following this, he went to Rajghat, where he paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, drawing inspiration from Gandhi's enduring legacy of truth and non-violence.
The Supreme Court granted bail to Manish Sisodia on August 9, 2024, reiterating that "bail is a rule and jail is an exception," emphasizing that bail cannot be used as a form of punishment. The decision came after a lengthy legal battle, with the Supreme Court reserving its verdict on August 6 in connection with the controversial Delhi excise policy 2021-22 case. Sisodia had been in custody since February 26, 2023, following his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for alleged irregularities in the policy's formulation and implementation. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had also arrested him on March 9, 2023, in a related money laundering case.
After his release, Sisodia made an emotional visit to the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who remains in custody related to the same case. The visit was marked by poignant scenes, with Sunita Kejriwal, Arvind Kejriwal's wife, moved to tears upon seeing Sisodia. During this visit, Sisodia also sought blessings from Kejriwal's parents, expressing his deep gratitude for their unwavering support throughout his legal battle.

Sisodia's arrest and the subsequent legal battle have been a significant episode in the ongoing political struggle between the AAP and the BJP-led Central government. The Delhi excise policy 2021-22, now scrapped, has been at the center of this conflict, with allegations of corruption and irregularities leading to multiple arrests of AAP leaders. Despite the legal challenges, Sisodia and the AAP leadership have consistently maintained their innocence, framing the charges as part of a broader strategy to undermine their party and leadership.
In his speech, Sisodia reiterated the AAP's commitment to honesty and transparency, vowing that the party would continue to fight for the people of Delhi and uphold the principles of good governance. He expressed confidence that Arvind Kejriwal would soon be freed, and the truth would prevail in the ongoing legal battles.
The speech, delivered to a supportive and emotional crowd of AAP workers, marks the beginning of a new chapter in Sisodia's political career, one defined by resilience and a renewed commitment to the party's cause. As the AAP continues to navigate these challenging times, Sisodia's release and his subsequent address have provided a significant morale boost to the party and its supporters, reaffirming their resolve to stand against what they perceive as unjust political persecution.
The Supreme Court's ruling and Sisodia's subsequent release have also raised important questions about the use of judicial and investigative processes in political conflicts. The court's reiteration that "bail is a rule and jail is an exception" serves as a critical reminder of the principles of justice that should underpin the legal system, regardless of political pressures. As the legal and political battles continue, the AAP leadership remains focused on defending their integrity and fighting for the truth in the face of adversity.
