Key Points:

1: Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh accuses Narendra Modi of indulging in divisive hate speeches and lowering the dignity of public discourse.
2: Singh targets the BJP government over the Agniveer scheme, alleging fake nationalism and a disregard for patriotism and service.
3: Urges Punjab voters to choose Congress for a growth-oriented, progressive future safeguarding democracy and the Constitution.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has launched a scathing attack on current Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of lowering the standards of public discourse and the gravity of the Prime Minister's office. Singh's criticism comes amidst the ongoing political discourse surrounding the upcoming elections, particularly in Punjab, where he has urged voters to carefully consider their choices.

Singh didn't mince his words, asserting that Modi's campaign rhetoric has been marked by the "most vicious form of hate speeches," which he views as purely divisive in nature. He lamented that Modi has become the first prime minister to engage in such discourse, tarnishing the dignity of the office he holds. Singh highlighted that never before has a prime minister resorted to such unparliamentary and coarse language, specifically targeting either a particular section of society or the opposition.

Interestingly, Singh's rebuke comes in response to Modi's accusation against him in one of his poll rallies, where Modi claimed that Singh had stated Muslims have the first right on the country's resources. Singh vehemently denied making such a statement, emphasizing that he has never singled out one community over another, a tactic he attributes solely to the BJP.

Singh also directed his criticism towards the BJP government's policies, particularly highlighting the Agniveer scheme. He accused the government of imposing this scheme and suggested it reflects a shallow understanding of patriotism and service. Singh implied that the BJP's nationalism is superficial, emphasizing that true patriotism and service extend beyond mere electoral cycles.

In his appeal to Punjab voters, Singh positioned the Congress party as the only option capable of ensuring a growth-oriented, progressive future. He stressed the importance of safeguarding democracy and the Constitution, suggesting that only the Congress can guarantee such protections. Singh urged voters to give love, peace, fraternity, and harmony a chance by voting for development and inclusive progress, implicitly contrasting this with what he perceives as the divisive politics of the BJP.

As the political landscape heats up ahead of the elections, Singh's critique of Modi's leadership style and the BJP's policies adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing debate. His appeal to voters to prioritize progress and inclusivity over divisive rhetoric sets the stage for a crucial decision in the upcoming polls, particularly in Punjab, where the Congress hopes to secure a victory based on the promise of a better, more united future.
