2. Environmental Impact: Achieved a cumulative reduction of 10,000 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions and 270 million liters of fuel through green logistics efforts.

Maruti Suzuki, India's largest carmaker, is ramping up its utilization of Indian Railways for vehicle dispatches with ambitious targets set for the next decade. Currently dispatching 21.5% of its vehicles via railways, the company plans to increase this share to 35% by the fiscal year 2030-31, aligned with its strategy to enhance logistical efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
Over the past decade, Maruti Suzuki has steadily expanded its use of railways, leveraging its Automobile-Freight-Train-Operator license obtained over ten years ago. This initiative has allowed the automaker to transport vehicles to 20 destinations, serving over 450 cities across India.
The shift towards rail transport has not only bolstered efficiency but also contributed significantly to environmental sustainability. Maruti Suzuki reports a cumulative reduction of 10,000 metric tonnes of CO2 emissions and savings of 270 million liters of fuel through its green logistics efforts. These achievements underline the company's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and aligning with global climate goals.
In a strategic move to further enhance its logistical capabilities, Maruti Suzuki inaugurated India's first automobile in-plant railway siding at its Gujarat facility earlier this year under the PM Gati Shakti program. This facility, capable of dispatching 3 lakh vehicles annually, marks a significant milestone in the company's infrastructure development for efficient transportation.
Looking ahead, Maruti Suzuki plans to replicate this success at its Manesar facility with another in-plant railway siding currently under construction. This expansion underscores the company's proactive approach to scaling its logistical operations in line with growing production capacities and market demands.
As Maruti Suzuki continues to innovate in sustainable logistics and expand its rail transport infrastructure, stakeholders can expect further advancements in operational efficiency, environmental stewardship, and overall business sustainability. This commitment not only supports India's economic growth but also positions Maruti Suzuki as a leader in green automotive manufacturing and transportation.
