In a shocking incident, a mob attacked a police station in Mysore, Karnataka, on Tuesday night. The attack occurred at the Udayagiri Police Station, resulting in seven police officers being injured. The violence was reportedly triggered by a derogatory Facebook post made by a local man, leading to escalating tensions in the area.

Attack on Police Station Over Derogatory Post

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Hitendra confirmed that the accused behind the derogatory post had already been arrested. However, the situation turned violent when some individuals feared the accused would be released soon. This fear sparked a mob uprising, with the crowd attempting to storm the police station, vandalizing vehicles, and injuring the officers on duty.

ADGP Hitendra stated that a team has been formed to apprehend the culprits responsible for the violence, but reassured that, for now, the situation has been brought under control.

Stone Pelting and Vandalism at the Station

Narasimharaja Congress MLA Tanveer Sait explained that the commotion erupted after the controversial Facebook post. The crowd pelted stones and attacked vehicles in the vicinity. The police had to use a lathi charge to disperse the violent crowd.

Sait added that there was a delay of 5-6 hours between filing the initial police complaint and taking action against the post, which contributed to the unrest. The police were trying to verify the authenticity of the post before proceeding with further steps. During this time, protests escalated, and the police were forced to intervene more forcibly.

Police Station and Vehicles Vandalized

The violence included stone pelting, and several vehicles, both police and public, were vandalized during the attack on the police station. Following the vandalism and unrest, additional police force was deployed to ensure order was restored.

Local MLA Reacts

Tanveer Sait also added that although the accused individual behind the post had been identified, the protestors did not calm down until the police resorted to using force. According to him, public roads were blocked during the unrest. He expressed concern over the delay in handling the matter, which ultimately escalated into a serious situation.

Current Situation

According to the police, the situation is now under control, with no further unrest reported. Authorities are investigating the attack, and action will be taken against those responsible for inciting violence.
