Such actions have been described as deeply inappropriate and potentially compromising to the dignity, privacy, and safety of the officers and their families.

The advisory stresses that while senior officers hold prominent public roles, their families remain private citizens and deserve respect and sensitivity.

The Four Key Advisory Points to Media

1. Refrain from visiting or contacting private residences or families of serving or retired Armed Forces personnel for personal stories or interviews, unless explicitly invited or cleared via official channels.

2. Avoid publishing or broadcasting personal details like residential addresses, family photographs, or other non-operational information not in the public interest.

3. Focus media coverage on professional and operational aspects of Armed Forces activities and leadership, steering clear of speculative or intrusive reports on private lives.

4. Respect privacy and operational confidentiality boundaries, especially during active operations or times of heightened national security.

Ministry’s Call for Responsible Journalism

The Ministry of Defence reiterated its commitment to transparent and constructive media engagement but appealed to journalists and media stakeholders to maintain responsible journalistic standards. It emphasized the need to uphold the personal dignity and space of armed forces personnel and their families who serve the nation.
