What’s covered under the Article

  • RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat clarified that there is no quarrel with BJP, emphasizing Sangh only advises while the party takes the final decisions.

  • Bhagwat dismissed claims of Partition silence, reiterated Sangh’s protest history, and stressed on the goal of Akhand Bharat as a national truth.

  • On BJP leadership changes, he said Sangh won’t interfere, while also suggesting families should ideally have three children under India’s population policy.

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat has come forward to clear the air surrounding speculation about tensions between the Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Speaking in New Delhi on Thursday, Bhagwat categorically stated that there is “no quarrel” between RSS and BJP, and the perception of differences is misleading. He reiterated that while the RSS can give advice on certain matters, the final decision-making lies with the BJP leadership, not with the Sangh.

Bhagwat explained that the coordination between RSS and BJP remains strong, especially with the Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre. He stressed that the Sangh has always maintained a cooperative approach, not just with BJP governments, but with all state and central governments, regardless of political affiliation. He added that governments often face systemic challenges inherited from colonial structures, making reforms difficult to implement instantly, even if leaders are committed.

“We are having good coordination with every government, both state and central. There are systems that have internal contradictions. Even if the man in power is 100% aligned with us, he may not be able to do everything immediately. We must give him independence. There is no quarrel anywhere,” Bhagwat stated.

RSS’s Role: Only Advises, Does Not Decide

Addressing the popular perception that RSS dictates BJP’s decisions, Bhagwat firmly denied it. He said, “Does RSS decide everything? This is completely wrong. This cannot happen. We can only give advice, not make decisions.”

He explained that the Sangh and BJP are separate entities, with their own structures and responsibilities. The RSS functions as a cultural and ideological organization, while the BJP operates as a political party responsible for governance. He highlighted that while differences in opinions (mat bhed) may occur, there is no difference in hearts (mann bhed).

On Delay in BJP President Appointment

Bhagwat also addressed queries regarding the delay in deciding the new BJP president. He clarified that the RSS has no involvement in the matter and does not impose deadlines on the party. According to him, BJP should take its own time in finalizing leadership roles, and the Sangh will only support when required.

“Take your time, we do not have to say anything. We help everyone, not just BJP, if they need our assistance in doing good work,” he said.

Partition and Akhand Bharat

Another significant remark from Bhagwat was regarding India’s Partition. He dismissed claims that the RSS did not oppose Partition in 1947, calling such claims misinformation. According to him, the RSS had protested against Partition, but at that time, the organization did not wield political or administrative power to influence outcomes.

He reaffirmed the Sangh’s long-standing belief in Akhand Bharat (Undivided India), calling it a “truth” that continues to guide its ideology.

“Sangh had protested against Partition, but what power did it have then? Akhand Bharat is a truth,” Bhagwat noted.

Population Policy and Family Structure

In a notable comment on India’s population policy, Bhagwat said the current guideline suggests 2.1 children per family, which mathematically translates into three children per household. He urged citizens to view this as a responsibility towards maintaining demographic balance in the nation.

“Every citizen should see that there should be three children in his/her family,” Bhagwat remarked.

No Rift, Same Goal

Bhagwat concluded by reiterating that rumours of rift between RSS and BJP are baseless. While there may be struggles or differences in implementation, the ultimate goal remains the same — the good of the nation. He emphasized that the Sangh’s role is advisory, not authoritative, and that the BJP retains complete autonomy in political decision-making.

This statement is seen as an effort to calm ongoing speculation about RSS-BJP relations amid leadership changes and ideological debates. With his clarification, Bhagwat has reinforced the unity between the ideological and political arms of the Sangh Parivar, while underlining that both operate independently but in sync for the country’s welfare.
