Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Laureate and head of the interim government in Dhaka, has expressed strong disapproval of Sheikh Hasina's comments made from India. Yunus believes that Hasina’s statements are worsening the diplomatic relations between Bangladesh and India. He urged Hasina to remain silent until Bangladesh formally requests her extradition to mitigate the ongoing discomfort between the two countries.

In an exclusive interview with PTI, Yunus, aged 84, criticized Hasina for her public comments while residing in India. He argued that Hasina's remarks, which came after her ouster from office, are causing unnecessary tension and hindering efforts to improve the bilateral relationship.

Yunus’s comments were in response to Hasina’s statement made on August 13, where she demanded justice for the violence and vandalism that followed her removal from office. She condemned the acts of sabotage and expressed condolences to the victims of the unrest.

Yunus highlighted that the relationship between India and Bangladesh is currently strained and emphasized the need for both countries to work together to address this issue. He also addressed concerns raised by India regarding the safety of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, dismissing these as excuses rather than genuine concerns.

Looking ahead, Yunus noted that a diplomatic delegation from Bangladesh is expected to visit India next month for traditional border talks. This meeting will be significant as it will be the first high-level interaction since the recent political changes in Bangladesh.
