What's covered under the Article:

  1. Netanyahu approved the Israel Defence Force’s plan for a Gaza City takeover while instructing the resumption of ceasefire negotiations with Hamas.

  2. Hamas agreed to a new ceasefire proposal without amendments and delivered its response to mediators, awaiting Israel’s reply.

  3. Protests erupted in Israel and Gaza over ongoing operations, with families demanding the release of hostages and Palestinian residents opposing relocation.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Thursday that he will approve the military’s plan for the takeover of Gaza, while simultaneously instructing officials to resume negotiations with Hamas to release all hostages and end the ongoing conflict under terms acceptable to Israel. Netanyahu made the announcement outside the Israel Defence Force’s Gaza Division headquarters, stating, “I came today to the Gaza Division in order to approve the plans that the IDF presented to me and to the defense minister for taking control of Gaza City and for defeating Hamas. At the same time, I instructed to begin immediate negotiations for the release of all our hostages and for ending the war under conditions acceptable to Israel.”

This announcement comes days after Hamas confirmed it has agreed to a new ceasefire proposal, stating it accepted the proposal “without requesting any amendments” and submitted its response to mediators. While Israel had previously approved a framework for the ceasefire, Netanyahu has emphasized that any halt in hostilities will occur only as part of a comprehensive deal for the release of all 50 remaining hostages.

Official statements from Netanyahu’s office were initially mixed regarding diplomatic engagement. A spokesperson mentioned that Israel has “no plans” to send a delegation for talks, while another official clarified that a delegation will be dispatched once the venue for negotiations is finalized.

Amid these developments, protests erupted both in Israel and Gaza. In Tel Aviv, families of the 50 hostages demanded an end to the expanded Israeli military operations. The Israeli government believes that out of the 50 hostages, around 20 remain alive. Meanwhile, hundreds of Palestinians in Gaza City protested against Israel’s plans to relocate residents to other countries. Displaced residents voiced their opposition, with Bisan Ghazal stating, “We want the war in Gaza to stop. We don't want to migrate. Twenty-two months it’s enough. Enough death.”

The situation underscores the complexity of the Gaza conflict, balancing military objectives, humanitarian concerns, and diplomatic negotiations. Netanyahu’s dual approach—approving the Gaza takeover plan while reopening discussions with Hamas—highlights the ongoing tension between achieving security goals and addressing the urgent need to release hostages and halt civilian suffering.

This renewed ceasefire effort comes amid intense international scrutiny, with Arab mediators awaiting Israel’s response to Hamas’ proposal. As the conflict continues, the global community closely watches the evolving situation, emphasizing the importance of diplomacy, humanitarian protections, and the resolution of hostage situations in Gaza.
