  1. Project Details: NHPC and ENGIE secure 200 MW solar projects through PPAs with GUVNL in Gujarat.
  2. Location and Cost: NHPC's project at Khavda with an estimated cost of US$ 101.5 million.
  3. Competitive Bidding Success: ENGIE achieves a competitive tariff of US 3.1 cents per unit for the solar PV project.

NHPC, a state-owned enterprise, and ENGIE, a global energy solutions provider, have inked significant Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) for 200 MW solar projects in Gujarat, marking advancements in India’s renewable energy sector.

NHPC’s agreement pertains to a solar project located within Gujarat State Electricity Corporation's renewable energy park at Khavda. The project is estimated to cost US$ 101.5 million (Rs. 846.66 crore) and is slated for completion within 15 months from the execution date of the PPA.

On the other hand, ENGIE emphasized that this agreement represents their fourth solar project in Gujarat, underscoring their commitment to expanding renewable energy infrastructure in the state. ENGIE secured the 200 MW capacity through a competitive bidding process conducted by GUVNL on February 2, 2024. They achieved a competitive tariff of US 3.1 cents (Rs. 2.62) per unit for the solar PV project, highlighting their cost-effectiveness and competitive edge in the market.

The successful bidding and subsequent agreements reflect Gujarat’s growing emphasis on solar energy and its efforts to attract investments in renewable power generation. These projects not only contribute to environmental sustainability but also support India’s broader goals of energy security and reducing carbon footprint.

The collaboration between NHPC, ENGIE, and GUVNL underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in advancing clean energy initiatives. By harnessing Gujarat’s solar potential and leveraging competitive tariffs, these projects are poised to bolster the state’s energy infrastructure and contribute significantly to India’s renewable energy capacity.

In conclusion, NHPC and ENGIE’s PPAs for 200 MW solar projects in Gujarat represent a significant stride towards sustainable energy development in India. This article provides insights into the project specifics, competitive bidding success, and implications for the renewable energy sector in Gujarat and beyond.
