The 38th National Games in Uttarakhand witnessed Niraj Kumar's stunning victory over Paris Olympic Games medallist Swapnil Kusale in the men’s 50m rifle 3 positions event. The Indian Navy shooter, representing the Services Sports Control Board (SSCB), secured the gold medal with an impressive score of 464.1.
The 25-year-old shooter edged out Madhya Pradesh’s Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, who finished second with a score of 462. Meanwhile, Swapnil Kusale, who made history as the first Indian shooter to win an Olympic medal in this event, had to settle for bronze with a score of 447.7.
Haryana Clinches Gold in 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team Event
In the 10m air pistol mixed team event, Haryana’s Suruchi Singh and Parmod secured a dominant 17-7 victory over Rajasthan’s Anjali Shekhawat and Umesh Choudhary, claiming the gold medal.
Deepika Kumari and Juyel Sarkar Dominate Archery
Veteran archer and Olympian Deepika Kumari showcased her class, clinching the gold medal in the women's archery event for Jharkhand. She defeated Ankita of Bihar 6-4 in a closely fought final. Deepika also added another gold medal in the team event, further solidifying her dominance in Indian archery.
On the men’s side, 18-year-old Juyel Sarkar stunned four-time Olympian Tarundeep Rai on his way to gold at the National Games. In the semifinals, Juyel defeated the 40-year-old Tarundeep Rai (6-2), before overcoming Indra Chand Indra of Services 6-4 in the final to claim the top spot.
Services Maintain Lead in National Games Medal Tally
The Services team remains at the top of the National Games medal tally, holding a strong lead with 31 gold medals. Karnataka follows closely behind in second place, while Maharashtra has climbed to third.
