Severe Fog Disrupts Travel in North India

Dense fog has severely impacted travel in North India, especially in the Delhi region, on January 4, 2025. Indian Railways reported that 49 trains arriving and departing from Delhi are significantly delayed due to poor visibility caused by the heavy fog. These delays range from three to six hours, with 10 trains rescheduled as a result.

Among the most delayed trains, the Mahabodhi Express (12397) is running a staggering six and a half hours late. Other affected trains include the Rajdhani Express, Vande Bharat Express, Sampoorna Kranti Express, and New Delhi Duronto Express. The Vande Bharat Express, scheduled to depart New Delhi at 3:00 p.m., was delayed until 9:00 p.m. and remains delayed for further hours, causing major disruptions.

This fog-related disruption is not limited to rail travel. Road transport in the Delhi-NCR region has also been heavily impacted, with visibility dropping to below 50 meters, making driving hazardous. The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for the region, warning of continued dense fog until Sunday, January 7, 2025.

Flights and Airports Hit by Fog

The dense fog has also affected air travel, with over 400 flights experiencing delays at the Delhi airport. As the fog persists, travelers are advised to check the latest flight statuses to avoid inconvenience.

Safety Measures and Updates for Travelers

Indian Railways is urging passengers to check train schedules and weather reports before traveling. With the fog expected to last for several days, passengers and commuters are advised to stay informed about delays and disruptions.
