In preparation for the bustling festive season, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has announced the operation of 26 special trains to facilitate travel during key festivals, including Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Puja. From October 1 to November 30, these trains aim to accommodate the increased footfall of passengers looking to celebrate with family and friends.

Special Train Operations

According to the chief public relations officer of NFR, these special trains will cover crucial destinations across the country, including Amritsar, Gorakhpur, Bengaluru, Prayagraj, Kolkata, Anand Vihar, and Shri Ganganagar. Additionally, the trains will serve passengers heading to various other important locations along the journey route. This initiative is expected to significantly enhance interconnectivity within the Northeast, providing access to areas like Agartala, Silchar, Naharlagun, New Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, and Katihar.

In total, NFR has proposed 26 special trains comprising 254 trips during this festive period. Notably, this marks a significant increase compared to 2023, where the NFR has nearly doubled the number of trains and trips offered during the same festive season.

Indian Railways' Nationwide Effort

The Indian Railways is not alone in this endeavor; it has a long-standing tradition of running special trains during major festivals to manage the surge in passenger traffic. This year, Indian Railways plans to operate over 6,000 special trains between October and November. During festivals like Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Puja, millions of travelers traverse the country, particularly heading to East and North Indian states such as West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.

In 2023, the Indian Railways had successfully operated 4,429 festival special trains to accommodate the festive rush. The current year’s target of more than 6,000 special trains reflects the growing demand for safe and efficient travel options during these busy times.
