The Parliament’s Monsoon Session commenced on Monday (July 22) with a focus on the ongoing controversy surrounding the NEET paper leak. As political tensions escalated, key figures from the Opposition, including Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, seized the opportunity to scrutinize the government’s handling of the issue.

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition, criticized Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for his handling of the NEET paper leak scandal. Gandhi accused Pradhan of failing to take responsibility and instead blaming others. He stated, "It is obvious to the whole country that there is a very serious problem in our examination system, not just in NEET but in all the major examinations. The minister has blamed everybody except himself." Gandhi highlighted widespread concerns among students and the public about the perceived corruption and flaws within the Indian examination system, suggesting that wealthier individuals might manipulate it.

Akhilesh Yadav, from the Samajwadi Party, also weighed in with sharp criticism. He mocked the government for potentially setting a "record of paper leaks" and accused the current Education Minister of not delivering justice to affected students. His remarks pointed to deeper frustrations with the government's management of educational integrity.

In response, Dharmendra Pradhan defended the government's position. He assured that the government has nothing to hide and reiterated that all relevant facts have been submitted to the Supreme Court. Pradhan emphasized that the case is under judicial scrutiny and noted that the alleged paper leak incident was isolated. According to Pradhan, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has conducted over 240 exams with millions of students participating without major issues, apart from the recent Patna incident.

Pradhan further addressed the call for his resignation, stating that he serves at the pleasure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He reassured that the government is committed to transparency and accountability, particularly regarding the ongoing investigations by the CBI and police.

As the Monsoon Session progresses, the debates on NEET and other pressing issues are expected to continue, highlighting the tension between government actions and opposition criticisms. This session underscores the importance of addressing systemic problems within India’s examination framework while navigating political pressures.
