In a historic and deeply spiritual journey, 68 Hindu pilgrims from Pakistan's Sindh province have arrived in Prayagraj to participate in Mahakumbh 2025. These pilgrims, traveling on special visas, took a holy dip at the Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, and performed rituals for their ancestors.

The group, hailing from six districts of Sindh—Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Shikarpur, Kashmore, and Jatabal—included several first-time visitors who described their experience as overwhelming and deeply fulfilling. They performed the immersion of their ancestors’ ashes, a significant Hindu ritual believed to bring moksha (liberation) to departed souls.

A Sacred Pilgrimage Across India

The pilgrims, led by Mahant Ramnath, had earlier visited Haridwar to perform the last rites of nearly 480 ancestors. After completing those rituals, they traveled to Prayagraj to participate in the Mahakumbh and seek divine blessings.

Gobind Ram Makhija, one of the pilgrims, expressed his joy at attending the Mahakumbh, saying, “We couldn’t stop ourselves from coming. This is something we’ve dreamed of for years.”

A significant part of the group consisted of young first-time visitors. Surabhi, a Class 11 student from Ghotki, shared her excitement about visiting India for the first time and experiencing her religion on a deeper level. Another young pilgrim, Priyanka from Sindh, was moved by the experience, describing it as divine and emphasizing the pride she felt in witnessing her culture flourish in India.

Pakistani Hindus and the Citizenship Debate

While the journey was spiritually enriching, the pilgrims also addressed the challenges they face, particularly regarding travel visas and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Niranjan Chawla, a pilgrim from Sukkur, stated that while there was no significant movement in Sindh for Hindus to seek Indian citizenship, some Rajasthan border areas posed challenges for the community.

He also requested the Indian government to simplify the visa process, which currently takes up to six months for approval. Despite these difficulties, Chawla expressed gratitude to the Indian authorities for facilitating their journey to the Mahakumbh.

“We are thankful to the Indian government for allowing us this opportunity. However, a simpler visa process would make it easier for more people to participate in these sacred rituals,” he added.

A Spiritual Experience at the Grand Mahakumbh

The pilgrims plan to continue their religious journey, traveling next to Raipur and then back to Haridwar for further rituals. During their stay in Prayagraj, they intend to visit the Akhada saints and explore the vast Kumbh Mela, immersing themselves in the spiritual energy of the event.

For the 50 first-time visitors, the Mahakumbh 2025 has been a life-changing experience, connecting them to their ancestral roots and reaffirming their faith in Sanatan Dharma.

With the sacred confluence of the Sangam, Hindu rituals, and the global significance of the Mahakumbh, this pilgrimage marks a historic moment for Pakistani Hindus, demonstrating their deep cultural and spiritual ties to India.
