Pawan Singh, the popular Bhojpuri actor and singer, has confirmed his intent to contest the Bihar Assembly elections later this year. Speaking at a press conference in Jamshedpur on March 4, 2025, while promoting a film, Singh shared that after his involvement in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where he ran as an independent candidate, he would now focus on the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections scheduled for October-November 2025.
Pawan Singh Keeps BJP Option Open
When questioned about potentially contesting the elections with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Singh was evasive. He responded that he could not provide a clear answer at the moment and that "time will tell" regarding his political affiliation. This statement keeps his future with the BJP uncertain, especially given his previous fallout with the party.
In 2024, Pawan Singh was expelled by the BJP after his decision to contest the Karakat Lok Sabha seat independently, defying the official BJP candidate backed by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The party accused Singh of violating party discipline, tarnishing the party's image, and taking actions against its official candidate. Samrat Choudhary, the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar and state BJP president, confirmed the expulsion, stating it was an expected outcome for someone contesting against the party’s official candidate.
Pawan Singh’s Assets and Background
Pawan Singh's decision to enter politics was accompanied by his disclosure of his assets, which were revealed in an affidavit filed during his 2024 Karakat election campaign. Singh reportedly owns assets worth over Rs 16.75 crore, which includes both movable and immovable properties. His movable assets include five bank accounts, three four-wheelers, a motorcycle worth Rs 1.39 crore, and jewelry worth Rs 31.09 lakh. His immovable assets include commercial and residential properties in various locations, such as Mumbai, Lucknow, and Patna, with a total worth of Rs 6.45 crore.
According to the affidavit, Singh's income for the 2022-2023 financial year stood at Rs 51.58 lakh.
Jyoti Singh Also Set to Contest from Rohtas
In a related political development, Pawan Singh’s wife, Jyoti Singh, also announced her decision to contest the Bihar Assembly elections from Rohtas. This adds to the family’s growing political involvement as they prepare to make their mark in Bihar politics.
What’s Next for Pawan Singh?
While Pawan Singh remains tight-lipped about his party affiliation, his clear intention to contest the Bihar Assembly elections signals his growing political aspirations. Whether he aligns with the BJP or chooses an independent path again remains to be seen, but his ongoing influence in both the Bhojpuri film industry and Bihar politics ensures that he remains a significant figure to watch in the upcoming elections.
