  • PM Modi holds a high-level CCS meeting to decide India's response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians.

  • Pakistan declares no-fly zones over Islamabad and Lahore fearing Indian military action within 24-36 hours, citing “credible intelligence.”

  • Rising border tensions include continuous ceasefire violations by Pakistan and visible Indian naval posturing in response to the attack.

In the wake of the devastating Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, that claimed the lives of 26 people in Jammu and Kashmir, tensions between India and Pakistan have reached a boiling point. In response, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is holding several key meetings on April 30, 2025, including one of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS). This meeting marks a significant step in formulating a response to Pakistan, which is alleged to have supported the terror groups responsible for the attack.

PM Modi’s Strategy: Cabinet Committee on Security Meets Again

PM Modi has convened a series of high-level meetings at his residence, 7, Lok Kalyan Marg, including crucial discussions on India’s military and diplomatic response to Pakistan. These meetings involve Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chauhan, and top military officials. The Cabinet Committee on Security is tasked with determining India’s course of action in light of the Pahalgam attack, which is widely believed to have been backed by terror organizations operating from Pakistan.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi had empowered the Indian military to independently determine targets, modes of response, and timing for military operations. This comes amid increasing concerns over Pakistan's alleged involvement in supporting terrorist organizations operating on its soil. The meeting on April 30 follows the April 23 meeting, where India announced several decisive actions, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari border, and cancelling visas for Pakistani citizens. These measures reflect India’s growing frustration with Pakistan’s support for terrorism.

Pakistan’s Response: Military Strike Fears and Escalating Tensions

In a move that escalates the tension, Pakistan’s Information Minister, Attaullah Tarar, has claimed that India is planning a military strike within the next 24 to 36 hours in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack. Tarar also accused India of making “baseless and concocted” claims about Pakistan's involvement in the attack, which he termed as a pretext for military aggression. He warned that any Indian military action would lead to serious consequences, further exacerbating the already fragile relationship between the two nuclear-armed nations.

Indian Navy Flexes Its Maritime Might

The Indian Navy has also issued a statement through its official X handle, showing its maritime strength in response to growing concerns over possible military conflict with Pakistan. In a post titled “Fuelling the Maritime Might – No mission too distant, No Sea too vast,” the Navy highlighted its ability to project power on the seas and its long-range operational reach. This act of showing military readiness serves as a signal to Pakistan and the broader international community that India is prepared for any eventuality, emphasizing its strategic capabilities in case of an escalation.

Ceasefire Violations Continue Along the Line of Control

Meanwhile, on the ground, the situation is further intensifying as Pakistan continues to violate the ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir. In the night of April 29-30, Indian Army forces reported small arms firing from Pakistan Army positions in Baramulla and Kupwara districts. These violations mark the sixth consecutive day of unprovoked firing, prompting a robust Indian response.

Locals in areas like Akhnoor reported hearing gunfire around 8:30 to 9:00 PM, with Indian troops responding promptly to the situation. Residents remain on high alert, knowing that such provocations often lead to further escalation. The violations come at a time of already high tension between the two nations, following the Pahalgam attack and amid fears of military escalation.

International Support for India: UN Condemns Pahalgam Attack

The United Nations has also shown strong support for India’s stance on the Pahalgam terror attack. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar shared on social media that he received a call from UN Secretary-General António Guterres, who unequivocally condemned the attack and expressed solidarity with India. Jaishankar confirmed that the UN and India are united in their call for accountability, with India adamant that the perpetrators and backers of the attack must be brought to justice.

Key Meetings in Delhi: Strategic Decisions on India’s Response

At the heart of India’s diplomatic and military strategy is the Cabinet Committee on Security meeting. The gathering at PM Modi’s residence includes several key ministers and military leaders who are discussing the future course of action, including whether India will undertake further military strikes against Pakistan or if diplomatic avenues should be pursued. The meeting will also address the broader regional security implications of escalating tensions between the two countries and potential steps that India could take to protect its national interests.

Conclusion: Rising Tensions and the Path Forward

As India prepares to take action against Pakistan in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, the international community watches closely. The decision of whether to pursue military retaliation or to engage in further diplomatic efforts will significantly shape the future of India-Pakistan relations. With both sides mobilizing militarily, the coming days could see critical developments in this volatile situation.

The ongoing ceasefire violations, UN support for India, and Navy’s display of power suggest that India is ready for any escalation. However, much depends on whether Pakistan chooses to de-escalate or further provoke India in the coming days.
