PM Modi emphasized the BJP's commitment to development and service to the poor during his rally in Sonipat.
The Haryana assembly elections are set for October 5, with votes counted on October 8, alongside Jammu and Kashmir.
The rally preparations indicate a significant push by BJP to secure a majority after the Congress performed well in the previous elections.
Today, September 25, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a significant rally in Sonipat, Haryana, focusing on the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections 2024. The rally, held along the Rohtak-Panipat highway in Gohana, gathered considerable attention as it coincides with the state’s electoral preparations.
At the rally, PM Modi honored the birth anniversary of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, stating that his teachings inspire the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to uplift the poor and drive India towards new heights of development. He remarked, "The path shown by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya for Antyodaya and service to the poor is like a path of resolution for every BJP worker." This acknowledgment ties the BJP's philosophy of governance to historical figures, resonating with voters seeking a connection to the party's roots.
Modi highlighted Haryana's growth under the BJP government, stating, "Haryana has found a place among the top states in industry and agriculture sectors." He proudly referred to Haryana as a "medal factory," praising local athletes for their achievements on international platforms. The Prime Minister further asserted that support for the BJP is increasing while the Congress party's influence is waning, declaring, "The entire Haryana is saying 'phir ek baar BJP sarkar' (once again, BJP government)."
Additionally, he acknowledged the second phase of voting in Jammu and Kashmir, commending the enthusiastic participation of voters in what he termed a "festival of democracy." Modi's comments aim to draw a parallel between the voting in Jammu and Kashmir and the upcoming elections in Haryana, highlighting the importance of active citizen participation in shaping governance.
Ahead of the rally, preparations were extensive, with a special aluminium pandal erected and three helipads set up for the Prime Minister's arrival. Senior BJP leaders, including Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, joined Modi on the dais to reinforce party unity and support for the electoral campaign. To facilitate the massive turnout expected at the rally, local authorities have implemented traffic route diversions to minimize public inconvenience.
Voting in the 90-member legislative assembly is scheduled for October 5, with counting of votes occurring on October 8. The BJP aims to regain control of the assembly following a mixed performance in the 2019 elections, where they won 40 seats but fell short of a majority. The Congress emerged with 31 seats, and the Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) secured 10 seats.
The 2019 assembly elections saw the BJP, under the leadership of Union ministers Amit Shah and JP Nadda, aggressively campaign to retain power. A substantial pandal is being constructed at the rally site, designed to accommodate tens of thousands of attendees, with specific sections allocated for women. Party leaders and workers are actively reaching out to communities across Gohana and surrounding areas to encourage attendance.
The Gohana region, which lies at the center of three districts, holds strategic importance for the BJP as they seek to recover from previous losses in the GT Road belt, traditionally a stronghold for the party. In the 2014 Assembly polls, the BJP had won 47 seats but faced challenges in subsequent elections.
In summary, Prime Minister Modi's rally in Haryana serves as a vital component of the BJP's campaign strategy, emphasizing the party's development narrative and seeking voter support to secure a third consecutive term in the state assembly.
