During his address in Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a strong dig at Rahul Gandhi over his comments on India's foreign policy. PM Modi criticized the Congress leader for making statements that, according to him, could potentially harm the nation's interests. He pointed out that some people believe discussing foreign policy makes them look mature, even if their words do more damage than good.

Modi's Book Recommendation: "JFK's Forgotten Crisis"

In an attempt to underline the importance of studying foreign policy, PM Modi recommended the book "JFK's Forgotten Crisis: Tibet, the CIA, and the Sino-Indian War" by Bruce Riedel. He urged parliamentarians, especially those interested in foreign affairs, to read it to understand India’s past diplomatic history, particularly during the 1962 Sino-Indian War.

This book, written by a renowned American foreign policy analyst, delves into the complex relationships between India, the United States, and China during a time of significant geopolitical tension. It also reveals details about the meetings between former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and then-US President John F. Kennedy.

The 1962 War and Nehru-Kennedy Discussions

The 1962 Indo-China War was a critical moment in India’s history, exposing the vulnerabilities of India’s defense strategy. According to the book, Jawaharlal Nehru had sought help from the United States when India was struggling against China. The book also suggests that Nehru was more interested in engaging in conversations with Jacqueline Kennedy rather than focusing on key diplomatic matters.

Kanchan Gupta, a senior advisor in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, shared excerpts from the book on social media platform X, highlighting crucial moments that PM Modi referenced in his speech.

Modi's Jibe at Congress and Rahul Gandhi

Replying to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address, PM Modi made veiled attacks at Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party. He mocked leaders who visit poor households for photo sessions, suggesting that their concern for poverty is only performative. According to him, such leaders find serious discussions in Parliament boring.

PM Modi’s remarks reflect the ongoing political battle between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress Party, especially as the country heads towards the 2024 general elections.
