Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to visit Varanasi on April 11, 2025, for a significant development push in his parliamentary constituency. During this visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for 44 key projects valued at a staggering Rs 3,880 crore. These projects are designed to revamp the city's urban and rural infrastructure, furthering Modi's vision for inclusive growth in the region.
Among the various schemes, 25 projects worth Rs 2,250 crore are focused on strengthening Varanasi's electricity supply system. This includes the construction of 15 new power substations, the installation of new transformers, and the laying of 1,500 km of new power lines. A key highlight of these initiatives is the upcoming construction of a 220 kV substation near Chaukaghat, aimed at providing 24-hour uninterrupted power to the city. This is expected to drastically improve the reliability of the power supply, which has long been a concern for both residents and businesses.
Airport expansion is also a priority on the Prime Minister's agenda. Plans for the expansion include laying a tunnel to enhance connectivity and accommodate future growth at the Varanasi Airport, ensuring that the region can cater to the increasing number of air travelers.
Among the other prominent projects to be inaugurated are a Polytechnic College in Pindra, a Government Degree College, and 130 drinking water projects aimed at addressing the region’s water supply needs. The government will also be launching 100 new Anganwadi centres to support early childhood education and development.
The list of projects also includes the construction of 356 new libraries to promote education and literacy, the building of four rural roads to improve connectivity, and the establishment of a transit hostel at the Police Lines. These projects are expected to significantly enhance the living standards of the people in Varanasi and its surrounding areas.
In a major infrastructure push, PM Modi will lay the foundation stones for three new flyovers to ease traffic congestion, as well as inaugurate two stadiums—one in Shivpur and another at UP College—that are expected to foster sports development in the region.
PM Modi’s Visit: Security Measures and Public Meeting
Apart from the inauguration of these projects, Prime Minister Modi is also scheduled to address a public gathering in Rohaniya’s Mehndiganj. The event will be held on the Ring Road, located just outside the city limits, to ensure ease of access for rural residents while mitigating challenges posed by the summer heat and traffic congestion.
To ensure the prime minister's security, a robust security protocol has been put in place. Police Commissioner Mohit Agrawal and ADG Security Raghuveer Lal briefed the media on the security arrangements, noting that 4,000 personnel from the police, PAC, and paramilitary forces will be deployed to maintain order. Additionally, rooftop surveillance and the use of CCTV cameras and drone cameras will ensure tight security around the VIP route and event areas.
As part of the security protocol, personnel have been instructed to avoid using mobile phones at duty points and are required to report in full uniform with ID and duty cards. The authorities will also use ropes to control the crowd, ensuring a safe environment for both the attendees and the prime minister.
A Vision for Varanasi’s Future
With these comprehensive development initiatives, PM Modi aims to ensure that Varanasi continues to evolve as a major hub of economic activity, education, and infrastructure. The Rs 3,880 crore worth of projects will contribute significantly to improving the city’s living conditions, support its growing population, and position Varanasi as a key city in India’s development story. The visit marks yet another step toward realizing the vision of Varanasi’s transformation into a world-class urban center, in line with PM Modi's broader goals for urban development across India.
In conclusion, PM Modi’s visit to Varanasi today signifies a crucial milestone in the city's ongoing development. With infrastructure projects spanning various sectors, the city is poised for greater connectivity, enhanced services, and improved living standards for its residents.
