  • PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate infrastructure projects worth ₹2,200 crore in his constituency Varanasi on August 2, 2025.

  • The visit includes the release of a fresh instalment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme to support farmers across India.

  • PM Modi will also address a public meeting in Varanasi, focusing on infrastructure, agriculture, and development initiatives.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit his parliamentary constituency, Varanasi, on August 2, 2025, where he is scheduled to inaugurate multiple infrastructure projects worth ₹2,200 crore, release a fresh tranche of funds under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, and address a large public meeting of citizens and farmers. The visit highlights the government’s continued emphasis on rural development, connectivity, and welfare for the farming community ahead of upcoming state and national elections.

Major focus on development and agriculture

According to an official statement released by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO), the event will include the inauguration and foundation laying of a series of projects related to roads, drinking water, education, and health infrastructure. These projects aim to strengthen basic amenities and regional connectivity across Varanasi and adjoining districts in eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Among the key projects to be inaugurated are:

  • A four-lane highway expansion linking Varanasi with Azamgarh

  • New facilities for clean drinking water supply and sewage treatment

  • The revamp of primary healthcare centres and anganwadi buildings

  • Smart classrooms and digital education infrastructure in government schools

PM Modi is also expected to launch and inspect the progress of heritage beautification work along the Kashi Vishwanath corridor, and review ongoing work under the Namami Gange project, aimed at rejuvenating the Ganga river.

PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme disbursal

One of the major highlights of the visit will be the disbursal of the 17th instalment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN), where over ₹17,000 crore will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of more than 8.5 crore farmers across India.

Under the PM-KISAN scheme, eligible landholding farmers receive ₹6,000 annually in three equal instalments. With this release, the cumulative amount transferred under the scheme will cross ₹3.2 lakh crore since its inception in 2019.

The Prime Minister will interact with beneficiary farmers and address their concerns regarding crop pricing, irrigation, and technological support. He is also likely to announce new support initiatives for agri-startups, FPOs (Farmer Producer Organisations), and soil health management.

Public address and political tone

PM Modi’s public address, to be held at the Bhadohi-Vishwanath ground, is expected to cover themes of development, nationalism, and rural empowerment. BJP leaders said the event would also showcase the Centre’s achievements in infrastructure and welfare delivery, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, a state considered critical for the party’s political roadmap.

Party workers from neighbouring districts like Jaunpur, Mirzapur, and Ghazipur have been mobilised to attend the event. Local BJP MLAs and MPs are coordinating arrangements to ensure maximum turnout.

Security and logistics in place

According to officials, multi-layered security arrangements have been made for the Prime Minister’s visit. Drone surveillance, bomb detection squads, and special commando teams have been deployed across major venues. A no-fly zone has been declared over the core venues in Varanasi during the event.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will accompany the Prime Minister and is expected to brief him on the state’s progress in implementing Central schemes, especially in rural and tribal districts.

All major roads leading to the inauguration sites have been beautified and lit up. Cultural programs, including performances of Banarasi folk music, have also been arranged as part of the event schedule.

Analysts see the visit as a strategic signal

Political analysts believe the visit sends a strong signal ahead of the 2026 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections and the 2029 General Elections. The ruling party is keen to consolidate its base among farmers, women beneficiaries, and youth by showcasing its development work.

Experts also point out that this visit reflects the BJP’s shift in emphasis from urban-centric projects to rural rejuvenation and social infrastructure, especially in regions with strong opposition presence.

“This is not just a routine visit. It’s part of a broader political strategy to connect directly with the people, demonstrate performance, and build electoral momentum,” said Professor P.K. Tripathi, a political commentator from Banaras Hindu University.

Conclusion

PM Modi’s visit to Varanasi on August 2 reaffirms the government’s commitment to grassroots development, infrastructure modernisation, and farmers’ welfare. With projects worth ₹2,200 crore, direct financial assistance to crores of farmers, and a strong development narrative, the event is expected to energise BJP’s support base and reassert its governance credentials in a politically sensitive state.
