PM Modi remembers the pain and resilience of partition survivors

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a post on X, reflected on the tragic events of 1947, calling it “a tragic chapter in our history” marked by upheaval and pain. He honoured the grit and resilience of those who faced unimaginable loss yet rebuilt their lives from scratch.

“India observes Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, remembering the upheaval and pain endured by countless people during that tragic chapter of our history. It is also a day to honour their grit... their ability to face unimaginable loss and still find the strength to start afresh,” PM Modi stated.

He urged citizens to use this day as a reminder of the nation’s responsibility to preserve unity, noting that harmony among communities is the foundation of a strong India.

Amit Shah: The country will never forget the pain of partition

Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid tribute to partition victims, stating that the division of India caused violence, exploitation, and atrocities.

“Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is a day to express condolences by remembering the pain of those who suffered due to the partition of the country and its tragedy. On this day, the Congress party divided the nation into pieces, hurting the pride of Mother India… The country will never forget the history and pain of the partition,” Shah wrote.

Shah reiterated that the horrors of 1947 remain etched in the nation’s memory, and paying homage to the victims is an act of national remembrance and respect.

JP Nadda calls for unity and resistance to anti-national forces

BJP President and Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda emphasised the need for national unity and a firm stand against anti-national forces.

In his message, Nadda recalled the inhuman torture, displacement, and loss of lives suffered by millions, describing the partition as one of the darkest days in Indian history.

“Come, on this day, let us all citizens unite to pledge to maintain the unity and integrity of the nation and give a befitting reply to anti-national forces,” he urged.

He also lauded the decision taken by PM Modi in 2021 to formally observe this day as an official national remembrance.

Observed annually on August 14, the day commemorates the struggles and sacrifices of the millions affected by the division of India and Pakistan in 1947.
