Modi delivered a powerful speech vowing no force, including Pakistan-sponsored terror, will be allowed to halt J-K’s development, referencing Operation Sindoor.
In a powerful and emotionally charged address from Katra, Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sent an unambiguous message to Pakistan and terror outfits — any obstacle to the development of Jammu and Kashmir would have to "face Modi first." This declaration came as the Prime Minister inaugurated a slew of major infrastructure projects in the region, signaling a historic step forward for connectivity, economic growth, and national integration in the Union Territory.
The centrepiece of PM Modi's visit was the inauguration of the Chenab Bridge, the world’s highest railway arch bridge, standing taller than the Eiffel Tower. Alongside it, he also launched the Anji Bridge, India's first cable-stayed railway bridge. Both form part of the much-anticipated Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project, which now brings seamless rail connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the rest of India.
"Pakistan Is Against Humanity, Kashmiriyat, and Livelihood"
PM Modi used the occasion to condemn the Pahalgam terror attack, which occurred just weeks before his visit. In a strong-worded statement, he accused Pakistan of targeting humanity and Kashmir’s livelihood, asserting that the attack on tourists was a deliberate attempt to incite communal tension and derail the peace-building process in the region.
The Prime Minister lauded the resilience of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, stating,
“The strength shown by the people of Jammu and Kashmir has sent a strong message to terrorism across the world.”
He also invoked Operation Sindoor, India’s military response to the Pahalgam attack, as a symbol of India’s 'Atmanirbharta' (self-reliance), showcasing the capability and preparedness of the Indian Armed Forces.
A New Era of Connectivity and Development
At the event, PM Modi flagged off two Vande Bharat Express trains that will operate between Katra and Srinagar, a move that significantly reduces the travel time to around 3-4 hours. The trains are equipped with modern, high-tech amenities designed to handle extreme climatic conditions, and are expected to promote domestic tourism and regional trade.
PM Modi highlighted that this connectivity would allow Kashmir’s famous apples and other produce to reach the national markets faster and more efficiently, boosting farm incomes and employment.
Historic Projects Worth ₹46,000 Crore
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone and inaugurated development projects worth over ₹46,000 crore, which span sectors such as transport, tourism, agriculture, healthcare, and education.
In his speech, he celebrated the completion of these ambitious projects, remarking:
“Despite difficult terrain and hostile conditions, we chose the path of ‘challenging the challenge’ to make these dreams a reality.”
He called the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla railway line a symbol of J-K's integration with the new power of India, and the bridges a testament to India's engineering prowess and determination.
