Prashant Kishor, known for his strategic brilliance in Indian politics, has officially launched his political outfit, the Jan Suraaj Party, on October 2, 2024. This much-anticipated move aims to bring a transformative shift to Bihar, a state struggling with issues of poverty, backwardness, and political instability. In an exclusive interview, Kishor shared his vision of making Bihar one of the top ten states in India within the next decade.

During his two-year-long padayatra, where he walked through over 3,000 kilometers of Bihar’s villages, Kishor saw the real issues the common man faces daily. He believes that while politics can help, it is not the sole solution to improving societal conditions. He expressed that his efforts will be focused on tackling the most difficult tasks—making people understand the true extent of Bihar’s societal backwardness and poverty. “I have taken up the responsibility of doing the most difficult task,” said Kishor during the interview.

Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party promises a fresh alternative in Bihar’s political landscape. His mission is clear—to uplift the state from the cycles of poverty, poor governance, and the politics of fear that have plagued it for years. "My focus is entirely on Bihar," he said, acknowledging the deep political challenges the state faces. His plan, however, goes beyond traditional political methods. By walking through the state's rural heartlands, he has been directly engaging with the people, discussing issues, and trying to mobilize grassroots support.

Tackling Bihar's Challenges:

Bihar has long been identified with chronic backwardness, a term Kishor highlighted throughout his interview. His vision for Bihar includes addressing its long-standing issues, such as education deficits, lack of job opportunities, and the inability to effectively utilize its rich human and natural resources. Kishor also pointed out the politics of fear that often influences decision-making in the state. Kishor made it clear that his approach is different from his previous political advisory roles. In his own words, “There is no difference between my work earlier and now. The only change is that we are not working for any political leader but directly for the public. I am now the strategist of the Jan Suraaj Party, and if the people want me to contest elections, I will contest.”

The Jan Suraaj Party’s leadership structure is still evolving. Kishor mentioned that the president of the party would only be selected after the party contests its first elections. Until then, the working president, Manoj Bharti, a former Indian Foreign Service Officer, will hold the post. The leadership model is designed to be inclusive, reflecting the party's commitment to societal welfare. Many of those who have joined the Jan Suraaj Party have a reputation of working for society, a key criterion Kishor emphasized during his discussion.

With a renewed focus on Bihar's development, he aims to provide an alternative political narrative to the state. His track record as a political strategist is well-established, with past success stories from advising major political figures, but now he’s stepping directly into the field to fight for public welfare. Kishor is also confident that Jan Suraaj’s members are dedicated individuals, many of whom have a better image and standing than those currently in power or opposition. This assertion hints at the party’s desire to bring clean politics and honest governance to the forefront of Bihar's future.

The launch event of the Jan Suraaj Party saw notable figures from various fields. The presence of former Union minister Devendra Prasad Yadav, diplomat-turned-politician Pavan Varma, and ex-MP Monazir Hassan underscores the seriousness of the party’s intentions to bring a political revolution in Bihar.
