On December 5, 2024, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann dedicated the 'Nishaan-e-Inquilaab' plaza to the people of Punjab, an iconic memorial honoring the life and legacy of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. The plaza, located on the Airport Road, houses a stunning 30-feet high bronze statue of the legendary martyr, who remains one of the most influential freedom fighters in India’s history. The memorial has been constructed at a cost of Rs 5 crore, a significant investment in perpetuating the ideals of selfless service and sacrifice for the nation.

In his address, CM Bhagwant Mann emphasized the importance of remembering Bhagat Singh not just on his martyrdom day (March 23) or birthday (September 28), but every day. He pointed out that Bhagat Singh’s revolutionary spirit should serve as a continuous source of inspiration for the youth. Mann described the plaza as a lighthouse for visitors, both domestic and international, to learn about the martyr’s role in India’s fight for independence.

The state government also took pride in the fact that, through their relentless efforts, the Mohali Airport has now been named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh, a decision that previous governments had neglected. Mann highlighted how his government has given top priority to such initiatives, ensuring that institutions like airports and universities are named after iconic figures like Bhagat Singh to keep their legacy alive.

The Chief Minister spoke passionately about the need to fulfill the dreams of Bhagat Singh, particularly his vision of a corruption-free, poverty-free, and egalitarian India. He noted that previous governments had failed to address these aspirations, but under his leadership, the state is committed to realizing them. One of the key steps toward this is ensuring reverse migration in Punjab, with the state already offering around 50,000 jobs to youth in a transparent manner.

Mann called on everyone to rise above caste and communal divisions to make India number one, a true tribute to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the country's freedom.

As part of his efforts to inspire the younger generation, the Chief Minister urged youth to pledge that they would follow the path of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, dedicating themselves to the nation’s progress. The 'Nishaan-e-Inquilaab' plaza stands as a testament to this commitment, reminding all who visit of the sacrifices made for India’s freedom and the ongoing work needed to build a prosperous nation.
