In a major crackdown on terrorism, the Punjab Police busted a terror module in Amritsar on Monday, arresting three suspected terrorists after a fierce encounter. The police recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including an AK-47 rifle, while two policemen sustained injuries during the operation and have been hospitalized.
Encounter Leads to Arrest of Terror Suspects
The police identified the arrested suspects as Lovepreet, Karandeep, and Buta Singh, all residents of Amritsar Rural. Authorities believe they were planning to execute terrorist activities but were apprehended before they could act.
According to Amritsar Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, one of the accused attempted to fire at an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) while being brought in. In response, the police retaliated, resulting in injuries to Lovepreet and Buta Singh.
"Police Commissionerate Amritsar has achieved huge success. We have busted a terror module and arrested three people," Bhullar stated.
Weapons Recovered and Investigation Underway
During the operation, the police seized:
- One AK-47 rifle
- Several rounds of ammunition
- A 0.3 bore pistol with cartridges
- A 0.32 bore pistol
Authorities are now conducting a detailed probe to determine:
- The origin of the recovered weapons
- The terror network’s financial backers
- Possible links to cross-border smuggling and drones
"We are investigating their arms and ammunition and how they reached them. We are also deeply investigating the entire network of finances, suppliers, and drones," Bhullar added.

Punjab has been on high alert due to rising threats of terrorism and drone-linked arms smuggling from across the border. The state has witnessed multiple anti-terror operations, with security agencies working to dismantle terror networks operating within India.
