In a major breakthrough, the Punjab Police neutralized Mohit, the prime accused in recent grenade blast cases in Jaintipur and Raimal, during an encounter in Batala. The encounter took place during a weapon recovery operation, where Mohit attempted to resist arrest by hurling a grenade and opening fire at the police. The security forces responded swiftly, injuring Mohit in the exchange of fire.
Following the encounter, Mohit was immediately shifted to Batala Civil Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. His two associates were arrested, and police have recovered a 30-bore pistol along with other materials.
Punjab Police Busts Terror Module Linked to Babbar Khalsa & ISI
Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav confirmed that the operation led to the dismantling of a major terror module backed by Babbar Khalsa International (BKI) and ISI-Pakistan. The module was responsible for a series of attacks, including:
- January 15, 2025: A grenade attack on the residence of a late ex-chairman of Amritsar Zila Parishad in Jaintipur.
- February 17, 2025: A low-intensity blast near the house of a police officer’s relative in Raimal village, Batala.
According to the police, the terror module was being masterminded by USA-based terrorist Happy Passian and Pakistan-based Harvinder Rinda. The arrested operatives, Mohit and Vishal, were working under their command, carrying out targeted attacks.
Batala Encounter: How the Operation Unfolded
During a planned weapon recovery operation, Batala Police cornered Mohit and his associates. Instead of surrendering, Mohit launched a grenade attack in an attempt to escape. The police retaliated with gunfire, injuring him.
Despite being rushed to the hospital, Mohit succumbed to his injuries, while the police successfully took his associates into custody. The operation led to the recovery of weapons, including a 30-bore pistol, along with additional explosive materials.
Low-Intensity Blast in Batala Created Panic
One of the key cases linked to this terror module was the February 17 low-intensity explosion in Raimal village, Batala. The blast took place near a police officer’s relative’s house, causing damage to the floor and shattering a glass window. The loud sound caused panic in the area, prompting an immediate police investigation.
The police later linked the attack to Mohit and his associates, leading to the crackdown that resulted in the Batala encounter.
Punjab Police’s Ongoing Anti-Terror Efforts
The Punjab Police has intensified anti-terror operations to dismantle sleeper cells and terror modules operating in the state. DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that investigations are ongoing to trace other potential links to terror organizations.
Authorities believe that ISI-backed groups are attempting to spread unrest in Punjab, using local operatives for low-intensity blasts and targeted attacks. However, the swift action by Punjab Police has dealt a major blow to terror activities in the region.
Conclusion: A Strong Message Against Terrorism
The successful Batala encounter sends a strong message that the Punjab Police will not tolerate any terror-related activities in the state. The elimination of Mohit, along with the arrest of his associates, marks a significant step in ensuring the safety and security of Punjab.
With ongoing investigations, police are now tracking other members of the terror network, ensuring that those involved in extremist activities are brought to justice.
