Punjabi comedian and actor Jaswinder Bhalla passed away on August 22, 2025, at Fortis Hospital in Mohali due to health-related ailments. He was 65 years old. Born on May 4, 1960, in Doraha, Ludhiana district, Bhalla became a household name in the Punjabi entertainment industry, known for his impeccable comic timing, memorable characters, and relatable humour.

Bhalla began his acting journey in 1988 with the popular comedy series Chhankata, where he played the iconic character Chacha Chatra alongside Bal Mukand Sharma and Neelu. His performances quickly made him a fan favourite, establishing a long and successful career in Punjabi entertainment.

He made his Punjabi film debut with Dulla Bhatti and went on to feature in numerous successful films, including Chak De Phatte, Carry On Jatta, Mel Karade Rabba, Jatt and Juliet, and Daddy Cool Munde Fool, which continue to be popular with audiences. Bhalla’s unique style of comedy left an indelible mark on the Punjabi cinema industry, earning admiration from fans and peers alike.

The cremation ceremony will be held on August 23 at 12 noon at the Balongi cremation ground in Mohali, where a large number of fans, colleagues, and fellow artists are expected to pay their last respects. Tributes and condolences have poured in across social media, highlighting the deep impact Bhalla had on Punjabi cinema and comedy.

Apart from his film and comedy career, Jaswinder Bhalla had an impressive academic background. He joined Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in 1989 as a lecturer in Agricultural Extension Education and retired in 2020 as the head of the department. Bhalla completed his BSc Agriculture (Hons) and MSc in Extension Education from PAU in 1982 and 1985, respectively. Before joining PAU, he served for five years as AI/ADO in the Punjab Department of Agriculture. In 2000, he earned a Ph.D. in Agricultural Extension from CCSU, Meerut, as an in-service candidate.

Bhalla’s life reflects a unique blend of entertainment and academics, making him a respected figure both on-screen and in educational circles. His passing marks the end of an era in Punjabi comedy, and his legacy continues through his films, television appearances, and contributions to academia. Fans, colleagues, and students alike remember him for his humour, dedication, and remarkable personality, ensuring that Jaswinder Bhalla will be celebrated and remembered for generations.
