In a stunning display of batting prowess, Rachin Ravindra etched his name in the record books with a century against Bangladesh in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The young New Zealand batter not only anchored the successful 237-run chase in Rawalpindi but also surpassed a legendary record held by Sachin Tendulkar for 27 years.

Breaking Tendulkar’s 27-Year-Old Record

With his match-winning 112-run knock, Ravindra became the youngest player to score four centuries in ICC ODI events (World Cup and Champions Trophy) before turning 25. This milestone surpasses Sachin Tendulkar’s record of three centuries at the same age, which had stood since 1998.

At 25 years old, Tendulkar had amassed 955 runs in 16 innings, averaging 68.21 with three centuries in ICC ODI tournaments. Ravindra, in just 11 innings, has already scored 690 runs at an astonishing average of 69 and a strike rate of 106.48, making him one of the most prolific young batters in ICC events.

New Zealand’s New ODI Superstar

Apart from breaking Tendulkar’s record, Ravindra has also claimed the title of New Zealand’s top century-maker in ICC ODI events. Previously, Kane Williamson and Nathan Astle held the record with three centuries each, but Ravindra has now surpassed them with four tons in just 11 innings.

At just 25, Ravindra has many years ahead of him to further cement his place as one of New Zealand’s greatest batters in ICC tournaments. If his current form continues, he could set more records and become a dominant force in international cricket for the next decade.
