Aam Aadmi Party leader and Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha has given the public a rare behind-the-scenes look at the daily routine of a Parliamentarian during an active session. In a video titled “A Day in the Life of a Member of Parliament” posted on Instagram, Chadha takes viewers through his day from the early hours of the morning until late at night.
He begins his day as early as 6 or 7 AM, starting with a cup of tea and an intensive review of the day’s news. His reading list includes a mix of English newspapers—Hindustan Times, The Times of India, The Indian Express, and The Hindu—as well as Hindi dailies like Amar Ujala, Dainik Jagran, Punjab Kesari, and Hindustan. This, he says, keeps him informed about everything that happened in the last 24 hours.
By 11 AM, Parliament proceedings commence. Chadha explains that Zero Hour (11:00–12:00) allows MPs three uninterrupted minutes to speak on selected topics, followed by Question Hour (12:00–1:00), where ministers respond to selected questions from members. A lunch break takes place from 1:00 to 2:00 PM.
The afternoon is dedicated to legislative business, where bills and laws proposed by the government are tabled for discussion, dialogue, and debate. The last hour of the day is used for Special Mentions, where MPs can raise issues of urgent public importance in writing.
Chadha’s work doesn’t end when Parliament adjourns. After returning home around 8 or 9 PM, he eats dinner, prepares for the next day’s session, and handles ongoing political and administrative matters.
Social media users responded warmly to the video, praising Chadha for his clarity and commitment. Comments included appreciation for having “educated and knowledgeable ministers” and gratitude for explaining parliamentary processes in simple terms.
Chadha summed up his day with the caption: “Our day begins before the Parliament does. A cup of chai, a stack of newspapers, and preparation for the debates ahead.” His post not only gave insight into the demanding schedule of an MP but also highlighted the preparation and dedication required to perform effectively in India’s Parliament.
