Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, has set his sights on Uttar Pradesh and Bihar as key battlegrounds for Congress’ strategy to form a strong government at the Centre. Speaking to party workers and office bearers from the Sareni assembly constituency in Raebareli on Tuesday, Gandhi outlined his vision for the Congress party's future, stating that the path to a robust coalition government in Delhi begins with these two critical states.

"We want to form a strong (coalition) government in Delhi... with 200-300 seats. Its path passes through Uttar Pradesh and Bihar," Gandhi said, underlining the importance of Congress consolidating its position in these states as a prerequisite for national success. He emphasized that without strength in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, a strong government in Delhi would remain unattainable.

The Congress leader also spoke about the party's broader strategy in forming an INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance) alliance government, with an initial focus on Bihar. "Our target is to form an INDIA alliance government first in Bihar and then in Uttar Pradesh," he declared. He confidently asserted that the BJP would be "wiped out" in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, with the INDIA alliance poised to take control.

Gandhi's remarks reflect the Congress’ increasing focus on strengthening its alliances in key states, with Bihar and Uttar Pradesh being pivotal to the party’s efforts to challenge the ruling BJP at the Centre. The Congress leader further emphasized that any government formed by the party, whether in Bihar or Uttar Pradesh, would be based on the input and support of party workers on the ground.

Addressing the recent terrorist attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Rahul Gandhi conveyed his party's full support to the government in the aftermath of the tragedy. He requested the gathering to observe a moment of silence in honor of the victims of the attack.

During his speech, Gandhi also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of favoring a small group of billionaires in the country. "Whatever the billionaires want in India, Modi ji gets it for them. Adani wants an airport, defense industry, infrastructure, road contracts—whatever they want, he gets it for them," Gandhi alleged, referring to the business tycoon Adani's influence in various sectors under Modi’s government.

Gandhi's words underscore a dual strategy: focusing on strengthening Congress' position in crucial states like Uttar Pradesh and Bihar while simultaneously attacking the government for its perceived alignment with big business interests. This message appears to be a part of the party's broader plan to rally voters and workers in key states ahead of upcoming elections, aiming to shift the national political landscape in favor of the Congress-led INDIA alliance.

As Congress sets its sights on 2024 and beyond, the path to a strong government in Delhi seems to hinge on the party’s success in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, with Rahul Gandhi’s remarks serving as a key marker of the party's electoral strategy.
