The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert predicting rain with thunderstorms in Delhi and several other states over the next few days. The forecast indicates a shift in weather conditions across North India, with rainfall, snowfall, and hailstorms in multiple regions, while some western and southern states will experience rising temperatures.

Rain and Thunderstorm Alert for Delhi

Delhi is expected to witness rain accompanied by thunderstorms today (February 27), bringing relief from the rising temperatures recorded over the past few days. The maximum temperature is expected to be 26°C, while the minimum will hover around 18°C.

On Wednesday (February 26), Delhi recorded the highest temperature of the season at 32°C, matching the February 27, 2023 record. In February 2024, the temperature had remained slightly lower at 29.7°C. However, with the upcoming rainfall and cloudy conditions, a temporary drop in temperatures is expected.

Heavy Rainfall and Snowfall in the Northern States

According to the IMD, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to experience heavy rain and snowfall over the next 24 hours. The snowfall is expected to intensify in higher altitudes, affecting transportation and daily activities in these regions.

Hailstorm and Strong Winds in Punjab and Haryana

Residents of Punjab and Haryana should brace for hailstorms at isolated places on February 27 and 28. Additionally, strong winds with speeds of 30-40 km/h may sweep across the region.

Apart from Punjab and Haryana, light to moderate rain is expected in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, and Mahe from February 27 to March 2.

Temperature Trends Across India

• Northwest India: The minimum temperature is expected to rise by 2°C before dropping by 2-4°C in the next two days.
• Rest of India: No major temperature fluctuations are expected over the next 4-5 days.
• Gujarat: The maximum temperature will remain stable for two days, followed by a gradual increase of 2-3°C.

Heatwave Conditions in Maharashtra, Goa, and Gujarat

As summer approaches, temperatures are rising in Maharashtra, Goa, and Gujarat. The next 24 hours may bring hot and humid conditions, particularly in Mumbai and several districts in Maharashtra. The heat will continue till February 28, making outdoor activities uncomfortable.
