In recent developments, Samajwadi Party (SP) Rajya Sabha MP Ramji Lal Suman has come under intense scrutiny for his remarks regarding the 16th-century Rajput king, Rana Sanga. Suman allegedly referred to Rana Sanga as a "traitor" who invited Mughal emperor Babur to defeat Ibrahim Lodi. These comments have sparked widespread outrage, particularly among members of the Rajput community and right-wing groups.​

The Karni Sena, a prominent Rajput organization, vehemently opposed Suman's statements. On Wednesday, March 26, 2025, Karni Sena workers gathered outside Suman's residence in Agra, near Hariparvat Chauraha. The protest escalated as members attempted to forcefully enter the premises, resulting in vandalism of property, including cars, chairs, and glass windows. Despite police intervention, the situation remained volatile, highlighting the deep-seated sentiments associated with historical figures like Rana Sanga.​

Ranjit Suman, son of Ramji Lal Suman, expressed his concerns regarding the attack. He noted that discussions about targeting their residence had been ongoing for two days prior to the incident. Ranjit criticized the local police administration, alleging inaction despite prior knowledge of potential threats. He further claimed that the attackers were armed with sticks, rods, and swords, emphasizing the severity of the assault.​

The controversy gained further traction when Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma publicly condemned Suman's remarks. Speaking at a program organized by Jauhar Smriti Sansthan in Chittorgarh Fort, Sharma lauded Rana Sanga as a valiant warrior who bore 80 wounds in battles defending the motherland and Sanatan Dharma. He asserted that Suman's comments were not only an insult to Rana Sanga but also to every warrior who sacrificed their lives for the country. Sharma questioned whether Suman had ever attempted to understand the sacrifices of Rana Sanga or studied the history of Mewar. He called upon SP chief Akhilesh Yadav to take appropriate action against Suman and demanded a public apology.​

The incident underscores the sensitivity surrounding historical narratives in India and the potential for political statements to ignite significant public reactions. The Karni Sena has a history of vehemently opposing portrayals or comments they perceive as misrepresentations of Rajput figures. This recent episode adds to a series of confrontations between the organization and individuals or entities they believe have maligned Rajput history.​
