What's covered in the Article:

Rajdeep Singh, an aide of former Punjab minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, was arrested in connection with a food grain transportation scam.

The Enforcement Directorate's probe links Singh and Ashu to a money-laundering case involving dubious tenders and plots in Ludhiana.

The investigation also covers alleged misuse of the state’s transportation and labour cartage policy of 2021.

In a significant development in Punjab's political landscape, Rajdeep Singh has been arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Singh, a commission agent by profession and a close aide to former Congress minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, was taken into custody after a raid in Khanna, Punjab. This arrest is part of a broader investigation into a food grain transportation tenders scam, which has also implicated other high-profile figures.

On August 1, the ED had previously arrested Bharat Bhushan Ashu, who was the former minister of food and civil supplies in Punjab. Ashu's arrest followed an intensive investigation into a money-laundering case tied to various alleged scams. The ED’s probe stems from an FIR lodged by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau concerning irregularities in the state government’s transportation and labour cartage policy of 2021. This policy was intended to streamline operations but has come under scrutiny for potential corruption.

The ED’s investigation revealed that tenders for food grain transportation were allegedly awarded to contractors who had approached Ashu through Rakesh Kumar Singla, chairman of the CVC, Food and Civil Supplies. This has raised serious concerns about the transparency and fairness of the tender process.

Additionally, the probe extended to the Ludhiana Improvement Trust scam, where plots were allegedly allotted to fictitious individuals. This aspect of the investigation highlights the misuse of power and resources in allotting plots, which could be linked to larger networks of corruption.

The arrests and ongoing investigations reflect the ED’s commitment to tackling corruption and ensuring accountability within the political and administrative systems. The situation is evolving, and more details are likely to emerge as the investigation continues.
