Rajnath Singh claims India would have provided a larger financial aid to Pakistan if relations were amicable.

He emphasizes the development package for Jammu and Kashmir has surpassed Pakistan's IMF requests.

Singh asserts Pakistan's history of misusing financial aid for terrorism and its role in regional instability.

In a recent address at a poll rally in Bandipora district's Gurez assembly segment, India's Defence Minister Rajnath Singh took a sharp dig at Pakistan, asserting that if the neighboring country had maintained friendly relations with India, it would have received a larger bailout package than the one it sought from the International Monetary Fund (IMF). Singh's comments come amidst ongoing tensions between the two nations and were aimed at highlighting India's commitment to the development of Jammu and Kashmir.

Referring to Prime Minister Modi's significant development package for Jammu and Kashmir, announced in 2014-15, Singh noted that the allocated funds have now reached an impressive ₹90,000 crore, far exceeding the amount Pakistan sought from the IMF. This statement underscores India's readiness to invest in regional development, provided there is cooperation and goodwill from its neighbors.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former Prime Minister, was also invoked by Singh as he recalled the pivotal remark, “we can change friends but we cannot change the neighbours.” This historical perspective emphasizes the enduring reality of India's geographical and diplomatic situation. Singh expressed a hope for better relations, suggesting that had Pakistan pursued friendship with India, it would have benefitted economically.

Rajnath Singh further criticized Pakistan for allegedly misusing financial aid received from other countries and the IMF. He accused Pakistan of turning its territory into a "terrorism factory," asserting that it consistently seeks external funds to perpetuate instability rather than develop its own economy. Singh's remarks reflect a broader concern about the use of international financial aid, which is intended for development, being diverted towards sustaining terrorism and hostility against India.

In his speech, Singh reiterated Vajpayee's vision of "Insaniyat, Jamhooriyat, and Kashmiriyat," highlighting his belief that achieving peace in the valley would restore its status as a paradise. He argued that the region could only prosper when these principles are embraced fully, and that such aspirations are hindered by Pakistani interference.

The Defence Minister also addressed the ongoing issue of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, alleging that every investigation into acts of terror has revealed Pakistani involvement. Singh pointed out that despite successive Indian governments urging Pakistan to dismantle terror camps, the response has been lackluster. He highlighted that Pakistan's frustration over the revocation of Article 370 has led to attempts to revive terrorism in the region.

Singh asserted that Pakistan does not wish for democracy to thrive in Jammu and Kashmir and made it clear that India possesses the strength to confront any threats that may arise. He concluded his address with a strong message that should any attack on India originate from Pakistan, the country is prepared to respond effectively and decisively on Pakistani soil.

These remarks by Rajnath Singh not only serve as a stern warning to Pakistan but also reiterate India's commitment to its territorial integrity and regional stability. The Defence Minister's emphasis on development over confrontation suggests a nuanced approach that seeks to foster progress in Jammu and Kashmir while simultaneously addressing the threats posed by terrorism.
