Operation Sindoor involved 24 precision missile strikes across Pakistan and PoK in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 tourists.
In response to the escalating cross-border terrorism, India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is set to chair an all-party meeting today to brief political leaders about Operation Sindoor. The meeting, scheduled for 11 AM today, will take place in Committee Room G-074 of the Parliament Library Building, New Delhi. The Indian Armed Forces had launched this operation on May 7, 2025, striking multiple terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
This all-party meeting follows India’s 24 precision cruise missile strikes, which targeted nine locations across Pakistan and PoK. These strikes were part of India’s retaliation to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 26 tourists. The Indian government identified the terrorist camps in Muzaffarabad, Kotli, Bahawalpur, Rawalakot, Chakswari, Bhimber, Neelum Valley, Jhelum, and Chakwal as the key perpetrators of the cross-border attacks.
The decision to convene the all-party meeting was announced by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, who confirmed that the briefing would be held today. This meeting is of significant importance, especially after the Pahalgam attack, which raised concerns regarding the growing threat of terrorist operations from across the border. Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh voiced the party’s expectation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence at the meeting, noting that the absence of the PM during the previous all-party session on April 24 had been a point of contention for the opposition.
According to Ramesh, Congress is pleased with the government's bold and decisive approach with Operation Sindoor, but they want to see Prime Minister Modi at the helm of this crucial meeting to ensure clarity on the operation’s goals and future actions. The Congress will be represented by Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and Mallikarjun Kharge, the party chief, at the meeting.
The strike during Operation Sindoor is a direct response to the growing menace of terrorism directed from Pakistani soil, particularly after the Pahalgam attack, which was attributed to terrorists operating out of Pakistani territory. The Indian armed forces are committed to neutralizing these threats while maintaining a measured and non-escalatory approach to avoid triggering full-scale conflict.
While India has called for peace and stability in the region, the situation remains volatile, with tensions high across the Line of Control (LoC). Pakistan's response to the missile strikes has yet to be fully detailed, but the international community continues to closely monitor developments as both nations brace for the next steps in the ongoing standoff.
This all-party meeting will be a pivotal moment for India’s internal political landscape, as it provides a platform for political leaders to come together, share their perspectives, and strengthen the national resolve against terrorism. The government is keen on presenting a united front, ensuring that every political party is informed and engaged in discussions surrounding national security. This will also be an opportunity to underscore India’s position on combating terrorism while striving for peace and stability in the region.
As the meeting progresses, India will be closely watching both its internal political dynamics and the reactions from its neighbors and the international community. The outcome of this meeting may influence the next steps in India’s security strategy, as well as its foreign policy toward Pakistan in the coming months.
