Quoting Urdu poet Bashir Badr Singh cautioned Pakistan's army and reaffirmed India's strong counter-terrorism resolve during Air Force address
During a high-stakes visit to Bhuj in Gujarat, India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh delivered a direct and unambiguous message to Pakistan, declaring that India has placed its neighbour on probation. The statement, made in the backdrop of Operation Sindoor, underscores the government’s sharpened focus on national security and counter-terrorism measures.
Singh, addressing a gathering of Air Warriors at the Bhuj Air Force Station, asserted that India will no longer tolerate hostile intent or activities from across the border. His remarks follow a significant shift in India’s defence posture post the Pahalgam terror attack and the subsequent military response under Operation Sindoor.
India Places Pakistan on Probation
In his address, Rajnath Singh said India has officially placed Pakistan on probation, a term indicating diplomatic and strategic surveillance over its activities.
He warned that any further support to terrorism by Pakistan would lead to grave consequences, highlighting that India has become more assertive and proactive in defending its sovereignty.
Adding a poetic but sharp warning to the message, Singh quoted the famous Urdu poet Bashir Badr:
Kaagaz ka yeh libaas chiraagon ke sheher mein, zara sambhal sambhal ke chalo tum nashe mein
Loosely translated, the verse means, This paper clothing in a city of lamps, tread carefully while you walk in a trance, a symbolic reminder to Pakistan’s military establishment about its fragile state and the potential risks of provocation.
Operation Sindoor Still Ongoing
Singh confirmed that Operation Sindoor is not over, and the operation continues to evolve as per ground realities. The operation, launched following the terror attack in Pahalgam, involved precision strikes on terrorist hideouts and elimination of high-value targets.
“Our forces have shown the world that their aim is precise and pinpoint,” Singh said. “The task of counting is left to the enemies,” he added, referencing the accuracy of Indian air and ground strikes.
Operation Sindoor has so far demonstrated India’s enhanced military capability, intelligence coordination, and swift retaliatory doctrine. The continued mention of the operation by senior leaders signals its importance as a long-term counter-terror initiative rather than a one-off reaction.
IMF Funding to Pakistan Sparks Global Concerns
During the Bhuj event, Singh also expressed serious concerns over Pakistan’s international financing, particularly from institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He warned that such funds may be diverted to terror-related infrastructure within Pakistan.
“I believe Pakistan will spend a large portion of the funds received from the IMF on terror infrastructure, not on public welfare,” he stated.
This public condemnation is part of a larger diplomatic strategy to pressure global institutions to reassess their aid to countries involved in or supporting terrorism. Singh called upon the IMF to rethink its continued financial support to Pakistan, indicating India’s intent to take the matter up at international forums.
Bhuj Visit Follows Srinagar Acknowledgement of Operation Sindoor
The Defence Minister’s Bhuj visit comes just a day after his trip to the Badami Bagh Cantonment in Srinagar, where he met Indian Army personnel involved in Operation Sindoor. Singh congratulated the soldiers for their swift action and precise targeting during the mission.
He reiterated that India’s military has achieved new levels of operational excellence, and any threats to the nation will be dealt with swiftly and decisively.
His trip to both Jammu and Kashmir and Gujarat is part of a broader strategy to boost morale, review operational preparedness, and deliver strong messages to adversarial forces both internally and externally.
A Broader Strategic Message
Singh’s public warning to Pakistan, use of poetic caution, and condemnation of IMF financial assistance to a terror-linked nation combine to present a multi-layered message:
-
Domestically, it reassures the Indian public of the government’s hard stance on terrorism.
-
Regionally, it warns Pakistan that continued hostility will face intensified counter-measures.
-
Internationally, it pushes for financial accountability and reform in global aid mechanisms.
Political and Defence Implications
This development is expected to have a ripple effect across diplomatic channels. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) is likely to escalate the issue at international platforms such as the United Nations, FATF, and through bilateral discussions with IMF-influencing nations like the United States and European Union members.
On the defence front, India is also anticipated to increase surveillance and expand strategic deployments near the western border to prepare for any retaliatory moves.
There is also increased coordination with friendly nations in West Asia, as well as with Israel, with whom India shares counter-terrorism intelligence and strategic defence partnerships.
