Champat Rai, the Secretary of the trust, disclosed that the taxes were paid between February 5, 2020, and February 5, 2025, with a major chunk—Rs 270 crore—going towards Goods and Services Tax (GST), while Rs 130 crore was paid under various other tax categories.
Trust’s Financial Transparency and Growth
To ensure financial accountability, the trust undergoes regular audits by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), further reinforcing the transparency in handling temple funds. The surge in financial contributions underscores Ayodhya’s rapid transformation into a major religious tourism hub since the temple’s construction began.
Ayodhya Witnesses a Tourism Boom
Ayodhya has witnessed a tenfold increase in visitors, further boosting the local economy and employment opportunities. Champat Rai noted that the city welcomed a record-breaking 16 crore tourists in the past year alone, out of which 5 crore devotees visited the Ram Temple to offer prayers.
During the Mahakumbh festival, an astounding 1.26 crore devotees visited the temple town, solidifying Ayodhya’s status as one of the most significant religious destinations in India. The influx of visitors has led to booming local businesses, increased infrastructure development, and expanded hospitality services, benefiting the region's overall economic growth.
The Ram Temple’s Historic Construction and Consecration
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust was formed in 2020 following the landmark Supreme Court verdict in 2019, which paved the way for the construction of the grand Ram Temple. The consecration ceremony took place on January 22, 2024, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading the rituals.
